Steeda Shifter

This place has them for $265. This is were I got mine from, they have free 2-day shipping. I was happy with my purchase and would recommend them but I don't know if you can find them cheaper.

John, not going to hold out for the MGW shifter?

Is the Steeda shifter 100 dollars better than the Hurst shifter? And is the Hurst shifter 160 dollars better than the stock shifter?
I'm ready for a new shifter as well. I'm not going to be drag racing but I do want a much improved shifter than stock. That $265 price for the triax is the best price i've seen for that.

If you are going to spend the $$ on a full replacement shifter, I would wait until MGW's comes out. If their S197 is comparable to their SN95 shifters (in terms of superiority over other brands), it will be AWESOME!!
Suggestion if you want to buy the saleen adapter: Their customer service/ordering is hit or miss. I've had somewhat good luck, but other people have had terrible luck. You may want to see if someone else sells it, instead of ordering it from saleen directly

For those interested in how it works, check out my 'How-To' thread.

I agree, the Saleen Short Throw Adapter is a good deal for the money. I paid something like $45 for mine through Saleen.
But, definitely worth the minimal price. I just have to decide if I want to spend the $$ for the MGW. I'm sure its a nice piece, but you can't beat $30 that's already been paid for, vs. ~$250-300??? that needs to be saved.

I think I found the lowest price for the Triax.

I asked saleen a question via email and they have yet to respond. They're close enough to the SE MI'ers that they could probably just drive to their Troy facility and ask them a question.

But either way, it doesn't matter. Just call them, and hope that you get someone that knows what they are talking about.

There's a Saleen in Troy, MI. I used to pass it every single day and wondered what they did there!

Email me directly for what I can do for you - I have the economy, sport, and Tri-ax all in stock. In my own personal car, I have the economy kit installed, and love it. Any of the three will be a VAST improvement over the stock slushbox feel that they gave the car's manual shifter...

Yes, the Hurst shifter I tested was very notchy and still some what vauge in its shift pattern. The Steeda has a spring assist to get the shifter from 2nd to third. This is something that is very desirable. I had a Hurst shifter on my 72 Grand Torino with a 351Cobra Jet motor and it had the spring assist on it. This made it nearly impossible to miss 3rd gear.
One of my biggest beefs with the Hurst aside from the notchiness is that it got “lost” just like the stock shifter when moving from 5th to 3rd. This is very frustrating when you try to quickly down shift when attempting to pass a car. Often, it is very hard to find a gear when this happens and you search around until you finally get the shifter back into 5th about which time you can no longer pass as you have lost too much momentum.
The Hurst shifter is an improvement over the stock shifter but I feel that it doesn't go far enough. Is the Steeda shifter worth $265? To me it is. I am only gonna replace the shifter once and I want it to be right.

Actually, I just re-read the post on the MGW shifter and I think I might wait. Augusta is not that far away and I would love to test drive the shifter prior to plunking down money. I really want a shifter that is reasonably smooth and deosn't get lost in it's shifting. I like the idea that you can adjust this shifter to suit your needs.
