Ok, well its really getting on my nerves now...

There is a squeak or a rattle or both coming from my dash on the passenger side. It is louder at highway speeds, and has not gotten any better since a week ago when it started.

What is the best way to try and get this taken care of?

Thanks

Take it to the dealer and say, "There is a squeak or a rattle or both coming from my dash on the passenger side. It is louder at highway speeds, and has not gotten any better since a week ago when it started.

What is the best way to try and get this taken care of?"

Drive around with someone in the passengers seat and have them try to narrow down where it's coming from!

All I will say is be firm with the dealers and don't let it slide. I had the same thing with my new 2000 GT, and unfortunately I still have it because I wasn't persistant enough. Sounds like something rattling on vibration under the dash on the passenger side, but I have never figured it out and sometimes it drives me nuts.

Mine has been doing the same thing since Day 2. I'm taking it in this week. It's also developed a rattle somewhere behind the back seat. I love the car, but it does not strike me as being particularly well put together (at least on the interior). Every day it seems to vibrate another interior panel loose...

Get some instant dashboard squeak remover.
On a serious note. Take it to the dealer, express your concerns and emphasize that your car is not just any car and that you better get it back in better shape then when you left it there. There are bound to be little annoyances with this car initially but you'll have to be persistant and firm. Good luck.

I think the idea about having a passenger trying to locate it is a good one.....I had my wife trying to find a new metallic rattle coming from the centre console. Turned out it was my new watch (loose metal strap!). <= how stupid did I feel!!!

Hey There,

When I bought mine, the delership was working on a sonic blue that had the same problem. Rattle in the dashboard. It had the IUP. This may be a common problem for the early stangs.

I heard the same type of noise on mine (I think) as I was accelerating pretty hard and I think it was the catalytic converter heating up and crackling. As soon as I lifted, the noise went away. It sounded like it was under the dash on the passenger side. Later the next day I got her up to 80 and the sound was gone. Still a mystery and hope it doesn't came back. Anyone else had this crackling/squeaking noise on the passenger side?

the best way to handle the problem is when you call to make the appointment, specify that you want to take the car for a drive with the svc manager or the tech...that's the key to resolving it on the first trip. if you can verify that they heard the rattle, then that's half the battle. jackg 90seville 95k

I too have the common dashboard rattle or squeak -- but mine is somewhat intermittent. I thought it might be something loose with the passenger-side vents or something.

I have also had bad luck with dealers "fixing" rattles. Yes they fix the complained about rattle, but they create 2 new ones in the process..... :bang:

I don't have a rattle on the passenger side, but I do have a rattle around my gauges. It is slight, but it is still annoying nonetheless.

Comine the rattle with the axle hop I'm experiencing on bumpy L.A. highways, and this car has some out of the gate issues. It is still an awesome car nonetheless, but I do have some concerns.

Just bring it back to the dealer and have them deal with it. That is what the warranty is for. Stop wasting your time trying to figure out where exactly it is coming from.

Hate to say it, first production year for the new model so there will be some issues. That is the price we pay for wanting them so soon. A price I can live with.

I hope you're right. I guess this is another good reason why I'll be waiting till the end of the 05 run and maybe into the 06 model year to buy.
