Com'on, it isn't functional but were only talking like 7 lbs or so here. You won't lose performance because of it....assuming you're not talking hundreths of seconds.

Ducktail would have been nice and we may see one yet though in an SE. Remeber Ford did say they were working on getting the 18's and were thinking of drafting up a ducktail.

 

With spoiler or without, well if it was a Mach 1 you would want it right and maybe a chin spoiler for the front. If you want the Bullitt look without ,really depends what Mustang look you are going after. I will get the spoiler on my SE or Cobra , which ever I decide to get.

the spoiler was put there so you could hang clothes from it and dry them on the way to work, no other reason

 

I'll probably go "spoilerless", but why couldn't Ford provide spoilers on all GTs and flush-with-surface "plugs" if you wanted to go spoilerless?

 

The spoiler is more than decorative. It provides roughly 5 lbs of downforce at idle.

 

Okay, work with me. I don't have a clue about what that 05 spoiler does at any speed. But I have seen drag cars running 170+ wrinkle the rear quarter panels from excessive down force on garage built specials. So, you buy a GT without said device because you don't like the look of that wing on your trunk.

Then, one day there you are on I-10 and a 05 GTO rolls by and there is no traffic as far as the radar detector can see.

I'll bet that when that speedo hits 150 your going to wish you ordered that spoiler.

Which one do ya think is gonna loose traction first? It ain't gonna be my 'Stang...spoilerless it may be...

Plus there are otherways to create downforce besides a trunk-mounted spoiler...

 

Go spoilerless and put a 10 lb pound of rice in the trunk for your downforce.

Personally, I like the rear end of the current mustang. The tail lights of the 05 are ugly, IMO. The spoiler gives it some style. It is a keeper, even in a vert. B)

 

I wonder if people were asking the same question back in 69 ?? And then most spoilers were mounted with a wrong angle, which made L Shinoda angry.

I like the spoiler on the 05, it finishes the rear nicely, and who needs downforce at a speed you rarely drive in the States (which is confortable, don't get me wrong)

So spoiler for me ! B)

I just want everybody in this thread to keep in mind that some are complaining about how it is so useless and a waste because it isnt really functional in terms of performance, yet in other threads you are so upset about not having 18s and cant wait for MyColor...tell me please how the personalized blue on your dash is going to make your car perform better than when you have it set to green.

If you like the cars looks better without it, I applaud you for having your own valid opinion.

 

No spoiler for me, I just think it looks cleaner IMO. Plus if I do want a spoiler in the near future (either a different one or the one that is on there now) I will just pluck more $ into the car to get it!

Its a matter of preferance. No one should say that the mustang shouldn't have a spoiler because it serves no purpose. Mustangs of the past had spoilers. Although they may not be effective, they are a styling element that some prefer.

It comes down to whether you like the look of it on your stang or not. Neither the yay or nay arguement is right or wrong IMO.

For me, a mustang doesn't feel like a mustang without a spoiler on the rear deck. But that's my opinion for my car.

There is no point in arguing with someone because of their opinion on the car. I for one couldn't decide whether or not to get the spoiler. After some thought, I decided against it. I like the look of the classic Mustangs with no spoiler on the rear deck, and since this Mustang has many retro styling cues, I went with the good old 13D (thats the spoiler delete option in case you guys haven't memorized the order guide like me ).

All true. I was just wondering if the thing actually did something for the car. If it did, it was just one more thing to consider on whether to get it or not.

I truly like the car with and without the spoiler. So if its just purely decorative, it doesn't have as much "weight" with me if it were functional and made the car look good.

My wife's Alero had a factory installed spoiler, but it broke off. Near as I can tell, the impact from the trunk being closed repeatedly put a moment force on the spoiler and snapped it enough to eventually weaken the plastic at the bolt locations. I don't want that happening to my Mustang. So...if the spoiler doesn't serve a purpose other than decor, to me...its just one more thing to break.

 

Since its not functional its rice. Also its ugly!

No spoiler for me! A nice ductail tho would at least look nice. If they make one later and its only on the trunk, maybe I can switch out my truck lid for th newer one.
