Okay, one of the things I love about the mustang is the incredible sound of the GTs. Due to my budget I may have to settle for an 03-04 GT or Mach1. I love the 05s but they are a bit expensive. Tell me, does the 05 sound better than the 03-04s? I used to work at a ford dealership and I Loved the sound of the older GTs, so they sound just as good as the 05s, right? Well let me know. Thanks. Also, just how loud are the 05s? Must be very meanacing.

The '05 has the advantage but you can make the '03 or '04 sound even better with Borla Stingers for about $540.

Not sure what you mean by older GT's. If you're refering to the Fox body 5.0's, the '05 is only a little louder, but with a MUCH different sound.
Compared to the 99-04's, the '05 is a LOT louder. IMO, the 99-04's were way to quiet for a Mustang. Comparing my '03 (when it was new and stock) to the 5.0's I'd had in the past, I was very dissapointed.
The '05 is probably closest to the 03/04 Mach 1's. Maybe a little louder.
BTW, my 03 GT is for sale.

I went and test drove a GT about 3 weeks ago, I carried a CD to test out the shaker system and I kind of forgot about checking out the shaker because the exhast note sounded sooooooo good. I had a 99 GT and even though it was fun, theres no comparing the stock exhast notes of the two.... the 05 is WAY BETTER.

my friend has a 02 manual GT. i test drove a manual 05 GT. the 05 sounds alot better. they really did a number on tuning the exhaust. and unless ur getting the mach1 at a lot clearance price they wont be less than an 05 GT otherwise i woulda considered.

Your best best is to drive and to listen to both... I bought mine brand new in dec 03 for 23500 out the door without a trade in and no money down. I am sure you can get one for less now... I don't have any clips of mine stock but I do have some with it open header and with just and off road x pipe and stock cat back... All you need is an offroad x or h to make either choice sound mean.

If you get a Mach, I don't think you would be "settling"!
My opinion on the sound...I like the stock '05 sound better than that the stock '03-'04 Mach. However, the Mach's volume seemed louder than the '05 level. Some of that could have been from placement as I listened from the interior. Also, perhaps the '05's volume would increase a bit with more mileage on the car.
Good luck with your decision.

This is depressing me way too much, I just saw on 05 gt and it was so cool. I don't think I can happy with any other car. Thanks for all the advise.

The thing about the '05 is it's suprisingly quiet on the inside.
I'm so used to the very loud MagnaPacks on my '03, I couldn't tell when to shift while test driving an '05 and got to 5K before I knew it.
(of course the 3.55 rear end helped it get there faster too)
