Need a little advice on hood struts. I was originally going to go with MRT but after doing my research, like I do before I buy anything, I'm not to sure there the best choice for my future plans. I want hood struts to get rid of the prop rod, but I don't want to switch back and forth like I have seen some do with the MRTs. I then started looking at the Redline hood struts but the riveting makes me hesitant. I'm unsure on how hard it will be to install it, and when the time comes how hard is it to uninstall it and put it on another hood? Which brings me to my next question to those with aftermarket hoods and Redline hood struts. How well do the work? Is there any bowing or misalignment? Also what the difference between the Elite and the other one they offer?

My plan is to eventually get the GT-S hood and I don't one to buy hood struts that will work now on the stock hood but not on the aftermarket when the time comes.

If the strut isn't strong enough to hold an aftermarket fiberglass hood, you can get different strength struts that fit the same size as the previous connectors. When I briefly has a fiberglass hood, I purchased some stronger struts that held the hood up just fine.

I have the Redline Tuning SS struts. Work great.

 

I have CDC hood struts, no drilling, uses existing hardware, looks great , IMO

 

I've read that the CDC or the same as the MRT ones, which is what I was originally planning on getting. My issue is that they may be to strong for a lighter aftermarket hood and cause it to bow or become misaligned. I read on Readlines site they will work with aftermarket hood but I just need it to be confirmed with someone that is running those struts with a aftermarket hood.

 

I have been using the "Cobalt" struts since the day I brought the car home. Factory hood, prop rod removed, no issues at all. You do have to rivet and bolt, but simple install, without the "guady" long brackets. Can be painted to match to enhance the "factory" look. Best on the market IMHO.

 

I have the MRT ones too and they look 100% oem. I agree that they are best you can buy. No drilling and big ugly brackets. heres a link.. They are power coated your correct color too

you are correct, I meant NXT but just read the previous post about the MRT's and typed that. Sorry

 

I've had the Redlines and now the MRT's, and while I'm very pleased with them I think these are just too cool.

I still have the redlines that I'll let go fairly cheap.

 

You can buy whichever ones you like most, none of them are going to hold up a fiberglass hood unless you change the gas struts. The struts are nothing special, just standard gas struts you can buy at the local auto parts store or online. If and when you get a heavier hood you just need to get struts with a larger lifting capacity.

Thanks that's what I needed to know. I actually bought the redline today, so when the time comes will see how it goes with the aftermarket hood.
