Spoken like someone not from the area, if even ever having visited it.

Actually, I lived in NYC for two years (1995/1996), in Manhattan.
I had an apartment on 55th street between 3rd and Lexington (adress: 155 E. 55th. It's a tiny building for the area, if I remember well it's something like 8 or 9 stories...), if you are familiar with the area, it's the building located near a restaurant called Shun Lee Palace (which at the time it was the best Chinese restaurant in NYC, at least according to the Zagat guide. If it's still there, I recommend it WERKED 66, if you like Chinese food you ought to try it...if it's still at the levels of 10 years ago, it will be quite an experience).
No, I wasn't born there, no I am not a New Yorker, heck I am not even American...
And what would be the problem with that ?

I worked+lived in 3 different continents in several countries (Switzerland, Italy, England, USA, Brazil, Argentina), been on holiday in many other countries, I got to meet and interact with a lot of people in this planet...and from my own experiences, when the level of politeness of the average person of all places I have been is concerned, the worst I encountered is indeed NYC (NY state is fine, I encountered many nice people up in a place called Wappinger Falls...a bit lost in the woods, but people are really nice).
Is TWO years enough to make a judgement ? In my opinion, yes.
Now I am sorry if you felt offended, WERKED 66, it wasn't my intention. I did not create that phrase (honestly I heard it quite a few times. I merely repeated it.) and of course, as with all phrases that concern a lot of people (MILLIONS in this case), it can never be accurate: there are good and bad people everywhere. But all in all, if you mean to persuade me that the average New Yorker is a human being full of kindness and compassion for his/her fellow human beings, I am sorry but I can't buy it, I really don't believe it to be the case.
The best I encountered in the USA would be Maine and San Diego people...Again, my own experiences...
As for DIAMONDBLUE...
You don't know me and I don't know you...so I don't understand how you can say where I have been or I haven't. I rest my case.
PS: if Florida is of any concern...been there too (not for years, only for holidays. Last time: this summer, from mid may to mid june, a full month in the Orlando area)...
Relax boys, it's all ok...

I backed down my neighbors driveway and left some nice big black marks. Have NEVER had a problem with them calling the police on me. Or anyone on my street for that matter.

If you didn't get the hint, let me clarify it for you one more time:
you do not know me...do not try to make ANY assumption about me...
Got it loud and clear this time ?

Something's coming through loud and clear, but I don't think it was what you were going for. Now I think I have a pretty clear impression of who you are.

I'm going to weigh in on this, being that my father grew up on Staten Island... Hylan Bvld.
My father told me that Staten Island used to me a much quieter, nicer place. But as the island became more and more populated and cramped, the crime rates rose and the general attitude of the people steadily deteriorated.
We recently returned to Staten Island for a family funeral, and my father was astounded at the congestion/attitude of the people there. He was shocked with the amount of vandilism/litter he saw.
Based on this, I would not be surprised to hear that new cars were being vandalized on a regular basis.
Besides, even if the guy had pissed someone off, it doesn't give them the right egg or vandalize his car. That's the most cowardly thing you can do. You don't have the ***** to say or do anything to the man's face, but as soon as he turns his back, you attack. In my opinion, anyone who does that is a coward and worthless piece of feces.
I've run into guys like this before. They usually wind up losing some teeth.
