So I happen to post on a coin related forum that I own a 2005 Mustang GT and another user responds that any Mustang built after '85 (rather odd date if you think about it) is no muscle car! And, goes on to add that it contains no parts he could not get at the dollar store.

I broke out in laughter for several minutes on that one. He even called the car cheap.

So, the only conclusion I can come to...

Some people just don't get it and never will!!!!

Well, he collects coins, so obviously he has no taste in cars, and has questionable . . . oh wait . . .

Some people just don't care about cars, and really have no clue. I'm sure there is some jealousy there too.

I'll second that, I own a 1964 1/2 coupe and a 05 GT. I don't care all for the 73-2004 and was actually about to buy a 2004 F-150 until I saw the new 05 body last fall. It brings back the 65-67 fastback look to me, but thats just my opinion.

I guess he doesn't like fuel injection. But that's about as wise as the people who said jets would never replace piston engined planes.

Being a coin collector, I'm surprised he referred to a Dollar Store and not a Dime Store.

So he considers the Mustangs of the late 70's to be muscle cars and any recent ones not. Hmmm 134 hp in 1978, 300 hp in 2005. Interesting.

At a gas station on Sunday, a guy pulled up in an '00 mustang gt and said to me that mine was the first 2005 he actually liked. He said he has never seen one he liked better then his. I gracefully said thanks ........

I'm guessing he referenced 1985 because that is the year he graduated from kindergarten. That would put him at 25 years old now and his coin collection is probably a piggy bank containing penny's, nickels, dimes and quarters. Heck, he might have a Susan B in there.

Sorry if I'm slightly off topic but I figured I could relate to your story. One of my friends found out I was getting a mustang and he sent me the following text message - "Mustangs are for girls. All I see is chicks driving those cars". (no offense ladies, you look very good behind the wheel of a stang). That comment made me laugh for a while. It gets better...the guy drive's a Celica - a.k.a. the ultimate symbol of masculinity.

Anyway, like you said "some people just don't get it".

Hmm...1985 was the last year the engine came with a carb. 1986 started the fuel injection (and it was a dog).

I have actually heard this several times from people. The idea of snapping off the carb ond bolting another one on is their idea of "tuning".

I, like many other people, did not like the fox body look as much (flame on!). The SN95 got better but after owning one....it was a rattle box from the first day. How many people got tired of the car swaying one way and the hood the opposite?

In my opinion the 05' is a throw back to the 60's and 70's....and I absolutely love it!!

My fav's
1965/66/67 GT Fastback
1967 Convertible
69 GT Sportsroof
69/70/71 Boss (any)
1977 Cobra II (got to include the disco version
1979 302 Pace Car (love them seats)
1986 "Fat" body GT convertible (Friend had one with IMSA body kit..rock on!)

oh...and I would take any Shelby or California Special !!

I have a neighbor in his 50's (way down the street, don't know him) who has a white 04 Cobra. I don't know what mods he has, but let me tell you, that is one of the sweetest sounding cars I have ever heard! darn she sound tight! Anyhow, I've had my 05GT for 3 months and was out waxing my girl (the car , not my wife )when he was going by. He stopped, rolled down his window, gave his Cobra a rev and gave me a Why do I get the feeling he will have an 07 Cobra? In Austin, I get the on a regular basis, even from 05 v-6's, Cobras and Vetts.

I have gotten three thumbs-up in the week I have had the car. Strangely, each of the three have been driving Ford trucks, two F150s and a Ranger. The few mustang drivers I have seen look at it then look away.

A celica, are you kidding me. I would venture that a higher % of celica owners are females compared to Mustangs. Not that it matters.

Let's see, a 180 HP celica GT (I think that's right) compared to a 300 HP Mustang GT, hummmmmmmm, which one is more feminine? Idiot!
