thats right my lug nuts are on sooo tight i cant believe it. its cold outside so its going to be nearly impossible to get these things off with a standard lug wrench. does anyone have any suggestions on what tools or things i would need to get them loose to rotate my tires. the rotation is long overdue and i must have it done.

should i take it to the ford dealer and have them do it since it is covered under warrenty??

also, i want to have this done because im putting my exhaust on tomarrow....

please help

This might sound crazy, I had the same problem and I stood (put all my body weight) on the wrench and they came free.

You could also try spraying WD40 on them to lube it a little

If all else fails, take it to the dealer. I suspect standing on the wrench will break it free though.

while you might be right..i would save the time and aggravation and bring it to the dealer...if they are as tight as you say you dont want to break a stud...at least if the dealer breaks it they will have to fix it........

Another vote for the tire cross. Terrific invention for us do-it-yourselfers that don't have an airwrench.

One of the best ways to loosen frozen lug nuts is to take an old socket that fits the lug nut and an old extension place them over the lug and strike them with a hammer to loosen any corrosion that may have occurred on the threads. This will likely knock and rust or corrosion lose and allow you to them remove the lug nuts with your lug wrench or 4-way. If this does not work to loosen them then it may be best to take the car to a professional as paying to have the tires rotated is cheaper than taking a chance on having to replace some studs because you had to force the lug nuts free and broke a stud or two.

Try spraying them with Break Free or some other similiar product, wait a little while and then try it again...they should be easier then.

Tire rotation is covered under the warranty? I didn't know that......

The New Cars have a lot of Torque holding them on. Get Yourself a BIG Breaker Bar and a 6 point Socket or a Good Four way tire Star. Something that could Fit in the Spare Tire area would be great as a Flat can happin. If you have aftermarket wheels make sure the tool clears if you lugs are in a recess

Combining what people said above, I'd let some penetrating oil soak in for a few minutes, then use a breaker bar and deep or impact socket. You should be able to get just about anything off if your breaker bar is long enough. I had to buy a 1/2" breaker bar last time I did a brake job, and man did that make the impossible possible.

I had a breaker bar, with the lug nut socket on it, and i pretty much put my foot on it and stood on it with the weight of my body to get them off, those suckers are on there!

This is what you need.... awsome tool... comes in handy more than you can know.... I would imagine that the torque spec for the lugs on the wheels should be no more than 110 ft-lbs... even that seems on the high side to me.... remember uneven lug torquing can cuase your rotors to warp and lead to other problems... Bottom line here is get a decent torque wrench too...

18 inch socket drive

They were probably over-tightened from the factory. I've never had a problem getting off a tire that was correctly torqued to 80-100 ft lbs using the factory supplied wrench. It isn't an ideal tool, but it works, and I'm no stronger than average. I also recommend a longer breaker bar, or cross wrench.

those lug nuts sound like they are way too tight

Take them to a dealer to get them broken loose and torqued down properly. Hopefully no lug nuts will be snapped.

but if the stress stretched the lug ? ie say the air gun had way too much torch ? could this happen , I found no problem and the factory sent locks were good too .

I agree. They must be over torqued or something. Also, as far as using penetrating oil. Not sure I would want to use that since the tires are not that old and rust should not have formed yet. So I don't think penetrating oil is the answer. If you cannot remove them using a socket wrench and an extension bar, definately take it to the dealer. You shouldn't have to pay either since it is not your fault they are so tight. Oh, and if you are using an extension bar, don't stand on it as some have suggested. You risk breaking one of the studs, and that would not be covered under warranty. Hey come to think of it, don't you have roadside assistance? I know I got it when I bought my car. Call them and have them crack the lugnuts free

O.K. noob question since this had to do with tire rotation. Don't the tires need to be balanced when rotated? Or do you just rotate them at home and if you feel vibrations then take them in to get balanced?
