Skipper 500?
Well, I guess it was bound to happen sooner or later. My Shaker 500 spit out a disc saying it was bad. I stuffed it back in and it said it was bad. I turned it off, stuffed the disc back in, and tried again and found that it finally read it.
I use a decent high quality burner but it seems like the CD/MP3 players used in cars always have some trouble reading the discs reliably 100% of the time. The Aiwa in my other car sometimes gives me hissy fits as well.
Has anyone found any fixes for this problem besides swapping out Shaker units or using an iPod?

I have an early 2005, think they revised the software since then but not sure. Mine was fine for a few months after buying then it went through a really bad period where it would only work correctly maybe 20% of the time. I can't remember the last time it skipped and I have done absolutely nothing to it. It's a faulty radio, people who have had them replaced seem to be evenly divided as to it fixing the problem or not. As far as I know, there is NO 100% fix, other than the options you already mentioned.
yea my sh!tter 500 got that "disc error" bs a few times myself. so i got the PIE aux adapter and now my 30 gig ipod video fixed the problem. now all i use the cd player for is FM radio to listen to the bbb-boys on 92.3 (opie and anthony)
No idea to be honest. All i know is that they removed the changer and all my disc and "cleaned" the dirt and drim that accumulated on the inside I guess. I bought the car used with 14k miles(05'). Either way she plays good now.
Take it to them see what they say? If you haven't done so already.

I've had zero problems with CDs in my shaker 500 and I use it everyday as I only listen to CDs and rarely listen to radio. I've only found one disc it wouldn't play -- a four year old cheap generic CDRW with mp3s on it. All other burnt discs have worked fine. I usually use name brand CDRs such as Memorex, TDK, etc.
Just wanted to add, I have had the exact same problems with store bought CD's, mp3 cd's and copied cd's. That leads me to believe that it is not the grade of CD your using but rather just a faulty player.
The player has worked flawlessly for a long time now and I did nothing at all to "fix" it. It's got to be some sort of software issue. I would think if it were mechanical it would never work correctly, IE a misaligned reader. Also shutting the car off (and opening your door so it shuts the power off) tends to fix it when it's bugging out.
It amazes me Ford has not come up with a real fix for this other than replacing the unit with another faulty one.
