Sirius Expands on Ford relationship, or does it?

Let's see...take a current 2 year exclusive relationship between Ford and Sirius Sat radio and then when Ford releases their hottest car rollout in decades, with much fanfare, do not offer sat radio until the 2007 model year...at the earliest.
Does this make sense?!!??! From now until 2006, Sirius will be available on only the Ford F-150, Ford Explorer, Lincoln Mark LT and Mercury Mountaineer. THE MARK LT AND MOUNTAINEER?!?!?!?! Come on Ford, give us a break.... Then (GEE THANKS) within a year (for the 2007 model year) 17 other models will be available (those models not named as of yet. I ASSUME the Stang would be included....
(Announced at Consumer Electronics Show) Basically, this is just an expansion/explanation of the elusive, no information available Sirius - Ford relationship.
See for yourself: Sirius - Ford
Bottom line, it is addumed Sirius will not be a dealer-installed option (I mean on the Shaker, not a dealer subcontracted add-on) on the Mustang until 2007. That stinks.... Let's look at GM, in which over 56 models are available NOW-TODAY. Look for yourself Here
Ford has a whopping 4, thats right 4 models available with XM as an option...wow Way to be out there on the edge...
This is totally Ford's fault...Sirius is fighting for its life and is looking for as many subscribers ASAP in it's competition with XM. Sirus has 1.1 Mill subscribers and XM has 3.2 Million. Assuming Sirius is still around in 2 years and not bought out by XM, Ford consumers can look forward to having Sirius on 21 models for the 2007 model year. This is another oddity from the powers that be at Ford......
In a technology driven world we live in today, its good to see a nible company like Ford rush years old technology into its vehicles within the next 3 years into SOME of its vehicles.... :bang:
I hope I find a good aftermarket installer for my Vert I am ordering next fall....

Ford should equip all of their models with XM Satellite Radio receivers ASAP! I've got it in my A4 and I'm hooked. Awesome selection and it's cheaper than Sirius. I plan on installing the portable receiver in my 'Stang as soon as it's delivered! It would have been nice if it came hardwired to the stereo (as it did with my Audi Symphony radio) but I'll make do with the portable. It's worth it for now...

If the Shaker is so similar to the F150's new radio (and the escort's, if my memory serves me correctly), wouldn't that PROBABLY mean that you might be able to use one of their sirius harnesses?
LOL my logic may be flawed, but it might be worth checking into at least.

You are fairly well informed young skywalker.
Sirius is making inroads in every XM market.
With Stern coming on and offering other features not offered by XM they will gain market share quickly. If you want Sirius you can add it to any system.

Sirius is a very stable company and financials look strong.
Ford could have acted quicker. Maybe they had the same people researching the customer demand for the Satellite radio as they did the demand for IUP.

I'm going off-topic but it needs to be done.
XM had commercials on their music streams when they started. It was one of the first things they had to get rid of to compete with Sirius. XM also had a year head start.

I won't pay for radio. I enjoy the local stations and if there is a song I want to hear, I usually already have it on cd and hence mp3. Burn a disk and I've got hours of music ready. But that's me. I don't even care whether or not my aunt renews our satellite service with Dish Network. I just want to hear the car. (and my cds)

Vector,
Exactly how is not offering Sirius radio on the Mustang "screw(ing) the consumer"? Heck, I'd like to have a 450hp engine, a 6 speed transmission, and DECENT speakers in the car. I guess Ford is screwing me too...
If you paid for it and they didn't deliver it, then you got screwed. If they choose not to offer something in the first place, well that is THERE business. If they choose correctly, they make money. If they choose poorly, they loose money.

Roamer,
Your missing my point. The consumer is getting screwed because FORD is a slow company to adopt technology. Is not not about what you want and getting it for free. I would gladly pay for any upgrade. It is about their main competitor General Motors offering the same Satellite Radio technology on 56 of their models today when Ford offers it on just 4. To add insult to injury, Ford announces it will have it finally on 21 of their models, not all of them....in 3 years....and who knows if the Mustang will even be part of that group. But dont worry if your one of the 10 people who buy a Lincoln Mark LT, your covered because you have one of the 4 models available today.

Your missing my point.
The point is that Ford needs things like Sirius to sell those other dog vehicles, just like GM needs XM and Onstar to try to move their dog vehicles.
The point is Ford will sell every new Mustang they can build in 2005 and 2006 without Sirius.
Then again I was waiting until 2006 to get m new Stang, maybe I'll just wait until 2007 when there will be more HP, Sirius, NAV systems and rebates.
