Is any1 else getting tired of seeing Ford and other companies come out with tons upon tons of Special Edition Mustangs that the won't sell or just tickle people enough to get them annoyed?

Don't get me wrong, I like looking at the bodywork that goes into them, but enoughs enough. IF they're not gunna release them to the public, fine. I feel like everytime the press gets wind of anoher concept they think Ford is going to put it into production...stupid press.

I know they come out with a SE every once in a whlie. A bullit, Mach 1. All cool cars. I'd like it if they came out with a boss for the new 2005-7 body style, but I don't need 10 variations of each.

Sorry just venting.

I kinda see where your comming from. The new Shelby GT-H would make a nice Bullit, and this new saleen looks like great potential for a Boss.

Disagree......If you ever watch Barrett Jackson's car auction, these "Special Editions" are the one's that bring Big $$'s at these shows. I may be way off but that's my thoughts

a lot of the time, ford may have plans to build the concept when they start, but by the time it's finished and people see it, the market or their financial situation has changed (2004 lightning or adrenaline), so they determine that it isnt worth it any more.
but yes, it is disappointing to see all of the cool potential cars that were designed, but will never be built.

MEDIC! I need a medic on post #6...

Oh darn, too funny. Once all the multiple posts got cleaned up, MY POST became post #6. Good grief... cancel the medic.

And did I mention Grabber range is the sexiest new color for 2007? No? Oh, really!

I cleaned up the extra posts.

My take on special editions is they should be truly special, not just raiding the parts bins for quick bolt ons.

Personally i'd prefer to seem some S/E's with bigger brakes, more power, distinctive wheels, etc. I think the GT-H's engine add-ons should have been offered on the GT/CS at least as an option, that is unless they weren't for warranty or certification reasons

Kudos! This is exactly what I was hinting at. Like that "GT350" that Hertz is renting. It just has some performance parts that any1 could add to a stock GT.

Foose Mustang(foose wheels), Bullit(legendary bullit wheels), Mach1(wheels, and functional hood intake), each had their own style of parts or wheels to add its own style. Most of these stpecial Eds just take aftermarket stuf and get slapped on em. It's not really "Special" when I've seen these parts on other cars on these forums already....like side louvers. Not saying the'yre not cool. Just it's been done.

So what if I bring a 1975 'stallion' edition in, what would I get for it?

It depends on the year, and the history of the times when it was made. By 1973, the era of muscle disappeared seemingly forever and it was over 20 years later before 'hot-rods' returned in force. The drought(and metalurgy) made them 'rare' by the 1990's. Now they are more powerfull then ever, and its readilly available by the thousands, with better models on the way. I doubt any new car is really collectable. 2000 Cobra R, 2004 Mystichrome, they're just used cars.....

But isn't that what the original Shelby GT350s from the '60s were? They were just Mustang fastbacks with some performance parts added...

I see your point....however, who would have thought that a 1978 Dodge "Little Red Express Truck" would sell for $22,140. Lot #324 in 2005!! CRAZY Ain't It!!

yes and no. I haven't watched a lot of BJ, but from what little I've seen the big HP special editions gather exponetially more $$ than the little more hp and/or appearance special editions. But that might be an anomaly. At any rate it'll take at least 25-30 years before they start to appreciate - if they do at all. Until then they're just used cars.

I understand what you mean about the press. Im sure everyone remembers the Adrenalin. In the December 2005 issue of Automobile, they were already giving an estimated release date for the Adrenalin, and what happened, it got canceled.

I think many Ford dealers are getting wise to the whole Special Edition 'dress-up' game. Theres a local Ford dealership out here (O'Meara Ford) that just started offering to build your dream Mustang out of any of their cars. As an example, you want a GT but want to add the 3D Carbon 'Racer Boy' kit...no problem. Want to add a supercharger...gotcha covered. And the nice thing is they are rolling the cost of the mod's into the purchase price so it's covered in your financing. Why get stuck with an SE that isn't exactly what you want when you can now build your own! Reminds me a lot of what dealerships like Yenko Chevrolet, and Tasca Ford did in the 60's and early 70's;

The Shelby GT-H is not a Ford SE. Any aftermarket company or Ford dealer can do whatever they want to create a so called "SE".

As far as Ford goes.

2001 Bullitt SE - OK
2003-2004 Mach 1 - GREAT! ! !
2006 Shelby GT-H zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz just a regular GT with some FRPP kits and a CS-6 hood.
2007 GT/CS - Piece of garbage as bad as the 1970s Mustang II Cobra, Stallion, etc.
2007 PJ / Saleen - GREAT !!! except the price and that Saleen had to do it because Ford is wasting their time with garbage like the GT/CS.
