SHR louvers - paint??
I want to like the SHR louvers import to Germany ready-painted.

Is the paint quality good and ready for installation or should I rather let the painting in Germany? I want it looking good and hope for a response from you.

painting is a royal pain...my first set took me about 5 hours to paint, was happy with the way they turned out, but i didnt use adhesion promoter as per instructions, they came loose the first hot sunny day, i decided to buff them while they were out and burned thru the paint...
I reordered prepaints and the proper adhesion promoter from Marcello, put them in and no regrets 6 yrs later the prepaints are very good, after doing so many sets, they surely know better than anyone about painting these...I saw a couple that guys had done by bodyshops, you could tell they had a hard time...hard to describe how difficult painting is, but masking a clean edge down in a hole, worse yet spraying down in a hole, with paint wanting to blow out of that hole, getting good coverage without a thick edge at the masking line...the prepaints have good match, good coverage and clean masked edges... a bodyshop doing these(unle$$ willing to $pend all day working on a couple plastic parts) will likely not get as good of a paintjob, just due to the experience that SHRs painters got after doing the job hundreds or thousands of times.
I'll eventually get a set for my 09 also, and will go prepaints again, for whatever thats worth...I had no idea how challenging painting these things would be.
ps- DONT FORGET TO USE THE ADHESION PROMOTER. the instructions are very clear, but still, i improvised...didnt have any, wanted to get them in that day, etc... just figured wiping the backside edge with laquer thinner would be fine for bonding...nope, urethane pulled clean away 6 months later. the adhesion promoter is like a molten/black primer look after you put it on- it melts way into the surface and gives great bite to the urethane- it wont let go
personally, i think all mustangs shoulda came with these- they add to the fastback look, visibility is almost unchanged, and IMO you wont find better folks to deal with than SHR

I ordered them unpainted the 1st time. I was never happy with what I got from a local shop who has an otherwise great reputation. I ended up selling them and buying a set of pre-paints like I should've done the first time. I don't think there are too many shops in the world with a higher quality standard than SHR. Order them pre-painted.
