Well, I have an 05 Redfire gt premium on order since 11-08-04. Thats 14 weeks since I ordered. Now I have found exactly what I ordered on a dealers lot 300 miles from home. Same price with 500 miles on it. What should I do???

1. Is it EXACTLY what you want?

2. Is yours built yet?

If #1 is yes, and #2 is no, buy off the lot. Any other combo of answers, wait for your order to come in--eventually. But it will be exactly what you want, forever.

I would wait. Those 500 miles are from test drives which gives me a mental picture of people winding out the gears, not to mention sometimes missing one as they run through them. Personally, I want mine to be a virgin.

Rod I'd seriously consider buying the on off the lot, 300 miles away.

As for it being a test driver, mayboe not---they may have swapped if for another car with another dealer, and it was driven to their lot. Inquire about the factual details.

Read my signature and you'll see the odyssey I've been on. Mine was built fairly directly, given the plant holiday shut down in December, but now I'm hung up with delivery delays.

If you are C/U, you are waiting an unknown / indefinite time. If they schedule you next week, you are looking at 2-3 months before delivery. Realistically, you are probably looking at longer than that.

Only you can decide, we can only suggest or advise. But if you have a bird in the hand, so to speak, and it truly is EXACTLY what you want, you should give it serious consideration. You'll be driving it within a week, vs. 3 months or longer, perhaps much longer.

Good luck.

1st of all these cars are not cars from the 80's meaning the they need to be broken in. So I say it is safe to buy it. However, I would try to get a better deal or some extras such as centercaps, spinners, or whatever you can. Tell the dealership that you have ordered one but you drive this one off the lot today if he gives you a better deal. Just make sure that the car is still 100% clean with no scrathes inside or out, no chips on the windshield, hood, etc. Rememer that its the end of the month and all dealserships try to meet their quota so they are much more desperate now than they are at the 1st of the month. Good luck. Let us know what you do.

if he's scheduled next week...you are saying 3 months, no way bro, the hold up on current delivery's is due to the fact they had to pull the new verts for quality checks whick i am sure held up rail and some car carriers..........if it is pulled within 2-3 weeks, that vehicle will be in your driveway by April--

From what I've heard people do to cars on the lot.......I'd ONLY order IMO. Everyone (including salespeople) wants to see what the 05 can do. Unless you are SURE it hasn't been driven, I'd say don't go this route.

However, if it has all the plastic on it and very low miles (ie. just transport).....its up to you.

14 weeks seems like a long time....hope you are checking up on it. Find out if you have a VIN and DORA. If you are in the system, just wait it out.

EDIT: Reread post..... 500 miles...... that's a tester. Don't do it IMO.

Well, I said 2-3 months. You say April, which could be 2 months (i.e. April 19), so we're not that far off. I also said "scheduled" next week, not built next week. There is a time lag between scheduling the build, and bucking the car.

His first problem is that his dealer must have a very small allocation if he is still C&U since ordering 11/8/04. So he has been idling for 15 weeks (tomorrow) already, there is no idea when his order may get pulled. He needs to give serious consideration to the unit exactly like his 300 miles away (of course assuming that the car checks out perfectly; the 500 miles are not an issue if the car is pristine and has not been abused, that's a given); or find another dealer who can get his car built sooner.

IF they pull his order this week and schedule it to be built, it will be mid- to late March before it is built; then however long it takes to get it shipped to him, which could be 4 days or 4 weeks, who knows. He's easily into mid to late April before delivery.

IF they pull his order this week. Realistically, it will likely be longer.

Again, only he can decide, and he is on site to verify the facts about the other car 300 miles away. If he does his homework, he'll make the right decision, for him. Not for us.

The real shame is his dealer situation causing him to wait 15 weeks with NO progress. That's just wrong.

I sure appreciate all the input. My wife and I are going to drive the 300 mi. today and stay overnight, so tomorrow morning bright and early we can go to the dealer and check it out. I gave them a refundable deposit over the phone yesterday.so if the car checks out I'll be driving it home tomorrow morning. wish me luck fellow stangers!!!

We all know how difficult it is to wait...especially as long as you have up to now.
Frankly, those 500 miles could have been the toughest the car will ever see.
The GT I test drove had only 19 miles on it. I wasn't gentle with it by any means, and would not expect other test drivers to be any better.

If I had waited as long as you have, I would wait just a little bit longer to have a car babied from the start.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do....Let us know!!

I'd wait. There's just something special about getting the car you ordered, even if this one is identical. Also, you'll have the peace of mind in knowing you put all the miles on yourself. I don't know what part of the country you're in, but summer isn't even here yet. You'll have the car a long time, a few more weeks should not make much of a difference if you waited this long.

Good luck, Rod. Thoroughly check out the car, don't settle for ANYTHING less than what you want. The car is equipped exactly as you ordered; be sure it is in the exact condition that you want.

It's your call. You'll get to the right answer; it will become clear once you check out the car.

Please let us know how it turns out, what you decide to do. And if applicable, be sure to post pictures.
