Should I Get An 09 GT Premium or Wait for the 2010's?

Hi,

I have been researching a a new mustang for myself this year and planned on getting the 09 model when it comes out. However, after reading through forums etc it seem that 2010 will have a major difference in both engine (5.0l) v8 and exterior, essentially being a big leap forward from 2009 models

Should I go ahead and get the 09 mustang or hold off later in 2009 for the 2010 model?

Is the 09 model going to be almost the same as the 08's? is the 2010 model going to be totally different from the 05's-09's?

thanks

WAIT FOR 2010!!! No contest!

The 2009 will basically be a carry over from 2008 with the exception of a glass roof option.

The 2010 Mustang GT gets a 5.0L, 302 cubic inch, 400 hp V8 that is more fuel efficient than the current 4.6L V8. The body will be improved and I am sure there will be many more improvements to be announced.

At least wait until you have all the details and see them side by side for yourself. If you wait until the 2010 is out and you decide you like the 2009 more I'm sure you can get a great deal as they make room for the new model.

Bottom line be patient. You will not be sorry.

The new engines don't come until 2011. New body sheet metel in 2010, and new engines in 2011.

I would at least wait until the 2010 specs are concrete, then make your decision.

I have also read about the new 5.0 liter engine in the coming years. What I fear is Ford can scrap plans in a heartbeat with these gas prices. I think I would buy something I no for sure what I would be getting.

If it were me, I'd get the 2009. With gas prices increasing, who knows what the future may bring? We may all be forced into driving crapmobiles down the road. Enjoy driving a Mustang now. It may be your fondest memory.

I would buy the 09 now. Even if you like the new model in 2010 I would wait atleast a year after the new model has been released to give Ford a chance to work the bugs out.

Must agree with AGBULLIT...wait for the new 2010 model, compare it to the 09's, there will be plenty on the dealer lots. Surely they will be offering great deals on the 09's to clear them out to make room for the new body style. The only chance you take is not geting an 09 exactly the way you want it. Good luck!

or just buy a used low mileage 05 for now and trade it in for an 2011, so you don't lose your shirt on buying a 2009

Buy an 08 or 07 new and wait for what comes down the road. Go for the deals. Bullit / CS / Shelby. I seen a few 07 08 shelby's and C/S for good prices.

Worrying about our cars being forced off the road is not worthwhile effort. Even with the proposed changes in the "gas guzzler" punishment stupidity program, our cars aren't going to go away. It sounds all scary and bad, but the math makes it a joke.

In short, buy the car that YOU want. If you really like the '09s and don't want to wait for the '10s to get sorted out, then don't wait! Not like you can't sell it. If you can wait, then wait.

I would wait until the 2011 GT comes out, this way you'll have both the updated body style, and the all new 5.0L 400HP GDI DOHC.

Look at it this way, you've waited this long right ? So why not wait just a bit longer, and get the car that has the new body style, and also gets more HP with better fuel efficiency

When there is uncertainty, I always advise people to consider a Ford Red Carpet Lease (RCL). Do a 2 year lease on an 09 and see how the 11 shakes out. An RCL keeps payments reasonable, allow you to pick the number of miles per year you need (to avoid the dreaded mileage penalties that people worry about for no reason), and offer you full control at lease end by giving you the best of options....

1. Like the 09 at the end of the lease? No problem, just pay off (or finance) the residual amount that is clearly printed on the lease upfront.
2. Like the 11 better at lease-end, but so does everyone else and the 09 tanked in value? No problem, just turn the car back into Ford and they eat the loss (depreciation). No risk to you!
3. Like the 11 better at lease-end, but the 09 has held its value very well and is worth more than the residual? Great, trade the 09 in toward an 11 and the amount it is worth over the residual is yours to apply toward down payment!

Can't go wrong leasing, especially with uncertainties on the horizon. There are other scenarios where leasing wouldn't make sense, but in this case it sounds like an excellent solution to your dilema.

I don't think there will be another car ever like my 07 Ca special Gt. It has the look that I have craved for years. I don't even care about the body changes and hp increases. This one is a have to have and have to try to hold kind of car for me. You may see me sleeping in it someday.

I just went through this decision, and I decided upon buying the 2008, rather than wait for even the 2009, let alone the 2010. The reasons are:
  1. The 2005 through 2009 have a more classic "old fashioned" look, which is what I wanted. I believe that this first-ever "true" Mustang, and will go down as the new classic. It is the first-ever Mustang that is exclusively a Mustang. It isn't a modified Falcon, or a Fox body, etc. It has it's own engine too (the three-valve).
  2. Ford is offering a very nice $1,500 rebate, and hasn't jacked-up the MSRP too badly,... yet. When we get through the change in currency at the end of this year, it will make your head swim! We are going to have a massive impulse of inflation which will make the 2010s very expensive. I believe that the 2009s will start to be jacked-up pretty hard in price too, toward the end of the year. Ordering sooner here is better than later.
  3. The 4.6 liter V-8 makes very nice power, and gets great mileage too. A 5.0 liter will get worse mileage, all other things being equal.
The information below is just presented as the "how" the dollar is about to be devalued:

At this point in his...."career"....Bush couldn't break even on a promise to turn the sky blue. He's a disliked lame duck. It's monologue time for that crusty politician.

The dollar?...Well, Bush did say he would bring change....about $0.42

As for gas...if you worry about gas, don't buy a muscle car.

+1 on the lease in this situation. Usually I'm not a fan of leasing but given you are torn this way you'll make out either way with little risk.

1) A 09 you like the way you want.
2) A 11 you like the way you want.
