Shaking While braking...

I have a 2009 mustang and ive had a recent and possibly troubling thing come up..

I believe its come up recently or atleast gotten worse...

When braking from anywhere from say 50+ to a near stop or to turning speed my steering wheel+column shake pretty hard regardless of how hard im actually braking..

Is this a normal thing? if not, what might be causing it?

Warped front brake rotors. They either need replacing or resurfacing.

And pads too. Replace them! You might be able to find a lightly used set if your lucky

Agree with all the above. It's the most likely cause.

Hey Fear,

As stated above, the culprit is most likely warped front brake rotors. I've had this happen in the past, it's not fun!

I can definitely get you setup with a good set of rotors/ pads at a great price.

Is your 2009 a 4.0 or 4.6?

Looking forward to hearing back.

+1 on the warped front rotors. After about 5 years mine started shaking pretty bad, so I had the stock rotors machined and got new pads, and it was good as new. Here I am, another 5 years later, and it's starting to shake again. Not as bad for now, but I'm starting to notice it more and more.

I have an 07 mine kinda did the same & it's only been through 2 sets of cheap **** ford break pads, so my son working at an auto store last July got me the sweetest deal on new rotors & pads my shake rattle & roll stopped.

^^^ That price looks good, but be aware that you'll need to buy GT caliper brackets as well for the front, and you need to have at least 17in. wheels.

Is it a bad idea to only upgrade the fronts to GT brakes?

I believe glen is right, and I would certainly consider upgrading. Won't be a huge difference, but you will stop shorter/quicker which is good in the name of safety.

Hey Fear,

Thank you for the kind words and sorry about the delay!

I was home for the weekend preparing for the 2 feet of snow we're about to be smacked with. This shall be fun .

In regards to a low cost quality rotor and pad kit you cannot beat the Power Stop Brake Rotor & Pad Kit.

They are the best bang for your buck and do a heck of a job, I have ran them on my previous Mustangs and loved them!

The only reason I don't run them currently is because my low mile 2014 GT still has the stock rotors, but that shall change soon .

Hope this helps and let me know if you have any questions!

- Will
