Shaker Shuffle
#1
Here's a surprise. While trying to shuffle six (6) Buffett CD's, only one (1) disc at a time shuffles. Why would that be unique? All six (6) should shuffle, after all, that's what the shuffle feature is intended to do. Have a six (6) disc in-dash in my 2002 Mountaineer, and it shuffles all six (6) discs, why not on an even better system (Shaker 500) in the Mustang?
Secondly, when you press "text" while in CD mode, the system is supposed to display the song, artist & album. I've tried at least 10 different discs, and each time it reads "no CD text". Any ideas??

Yup, there are other threads on this.
My husband's a Lincoln/Mercury auto tech. When ordered our mustang with the Shaker 1000 and I asked him if the shaker would shuffle between disks and he said "Probably not, he had not seen an in-dash one that did". Then he told me about one in a new LS that he took apart and explained to me how it worked. From his explanation, it would probably take about 10-15 seconds between each song when it switched disks. Is your's a factory system or aftermarket?
PS, don't put CD's with labels on them in these, they will get stuck, that's why he took the one on the LS apart! He see's this all the time!
EDIT: Oh yeah, and was your's MP3 compatible?

It's a Shaker 500, standard on the GT Convertible Premium. I have yet to try an MP3, but can't believe it won't shuffle between discs. Who would want to shuffle a single disc? That's pointless.
Again, our 2002 Mountaineer shuffles between discs on a factory installed system.

Well, since you can put 172 songs on a disk, shuffle seems like a pretty good idea.

You're right, of course. A shuffle feature is pretty useless with a disc containing only a few songs, as is the case with most CDs. But with MP3 discs, there could be several hundred titles available on a single disc, and a randomizer could be very desirable.

I posted this on another message... I'll paste it again here.
You got it backwards.... why would you want it to shuffle between discs? The delay between songs would be annoying... not to mention the thing holding up for years if you have the thing mechanically shuffling discs every song.
Here's the solution to your problem.
Take your 6 CD's and rip them to mp3's. Save each CD in a different folder.
Use a program that names them numerically.. or mannually change it (01 - Artist - Song.mp3) It sorts the songs alphabetically so if they're named 01, 02, etc. it will use the correct order.
Play the MP3 disc in the Shaker 500/1000 system. Turn SHUFFLE on.
If the unit is set to FOLDER mode it will shuffle through songs 1-X within a particular folder/CD.
If the unit is set to TRACK mode it will randomly shuffle through the entire disc. (All folders/CD's)
I had been fitting around 10 192 kbs quality mp3 CD's on one disc. That's over 100-120 songs.
Even if it were quicker, why in the world would you want your CD player to mechanically switch discs ever song when you can do it this way? It's pretty sweet. With the cost of a CD being in the pennys... you can burn a disc with 10 CD's.... play it for a week or two... and just burn a new one when you get sick of it.
As far as the CD Text goes.... it's just like the RDS radio text feature. The unit can only display info if it's there to begin with and most commercial CD's don't.
When you make your mp3's.... the ID3 tag stores all the text info... song, artist, etc. You can use CDDB (CD Database) online to get the info or manually enter anything you want.
The Shaker 500/1000 head unit has amazing capability for a stereo that no one will break into your car to steal. If you actually know how to use it.. you'll never complain.
Read your owners manual!

I’m still in dismay by the initial post where someone was attempting to shuffle 6 Buffett discs.

I still havent figured out the mp3 feature. Are there special mp3 discs or just a reg burnable cd? Ive tried a reg burnable cd but that doesnt work for me. I'm usually good with tech stuff but this one's got me.
Thanks for any help. Oh and my original shaker500 showed the text for all my cds, got it replaced and now none of those cds show text now.

It's a neat system, once you get to know its workings!
I had no idea at first. But there are guys on here that know all about
mp3s, folders, ripping and all that stuff! Great learning experience and now I can have all tunes in my unit. (800 plus on 6 cds)
No more cds all over the place in the car or at home.
Happy Trails!!!
