So, tonight I burned a CD to play in the car, and it would not work once it got into the CD about 6 minutes, or probably 30-40 MB. I had the same problem with mp3 CDs, and figured it was just that my Shaker didn't want to play mp3s. The kicker is that I have a number of older burned CDs that work wonderfully without a hitch. So, my question is has anyone encountered this problem, and if so did you figure it out. Clearly my Shaker will play burnt CDs, but for some reason not these. Do you think it could be the CDs? Burning software? CD-R hardware?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

It could be because in my other car the daily driver, it won't read imation cd's but it will read Memorex Cds'. It is very confusing

Thanks Matt. I think I will go grab a different brand of CD. I have always noticed that the CDs you get in spools seem cheaper than the ones that actually come in packages. Anyone else?

Take a look at the bottom of one of your older burned CDs that works, and compare it to the one you just did that doesn't work.

Are there any differences in color? Is the newer one blue-ish?

I'm not sure if it would matter, but could be a factor.

I might be suspect of the CDR drive. I have an old(er) one that has gotton progressivly worse over time and now the only place I can read disks burned with it is in itself. My other burners work find and the disks play everywhere including in the shaker.

Make sure when you go to burn the cd that you are selecting the "Read only" option. If you don't the shaker hates cd's that are not "closed".

I sure hope it is not the CD-R....it is less than a year old!

I had the same problem with mine. The latest version of software I use requires me to select the "read only" option before burning the mp3 cd. If I don't, the cd will work in my computer, home stereo and my wifes car (alpine head unit) but not in the shaker. As soon as I burn the cd over again using the read only option it works fine.

Cool. Thanks, I'll have to try that.

Also, burn the discs at 8x or less. The Shaker has trouble with anything over 8x. I'm not sure why, but this has solved the same problem on other players also.

It works!!!! My Shaker works completely...mp3's and all. Sorry, I am just a little excited. I had just assumed it would never work. Apparently it was the CDRs I was using. Changing the write speed didn't help. Trying a different burning software I had sitting around did not work. I was afraid it was the hardware, but alas, it was the media. Went out and bought cheap TDK CDRs, and it works perfectly. The ones that would not work, by the way, were Sony. As someone said earlier, the new ones have a nice reflective silver backing, and the Sonys have a transparent-ish blue back. I guess that was it.
