Is there any difference between the head unit of the Shaker 500 and the Shaker 1000 except for the name printed on it. Many people have suggested to get an aftermarket stereo system instead of the Shaker 1000. Can you add aftermarket subwoofers in the trunk connected to the Shaker 500 and basically have a Shaker 1000 then? I think stock head units usually look and fit better in the car than aftermarket systems. I have a Mustang on order with the Shaker 1000 but am trying to decide if I find one on the lot with everything I want but it only has the Shaker 500 whether to buy it.

The Shaker 1000 is Shaker 500 + 500 watt PEAK (MAYBE 200-250 watts RMS) amp and a sub box in the right rear truck with two 10" subs. The subs are NOT audiophile subs, but they do ok. Far better than most factory systems.

If you are thinking about doing any aftermarket upgrades on your stereo, you can build a FAR better sub system for a Shaker 500 for far, far less than the $1300 the S1000 upgrade costs. I ordered my car WITHOUT the S1000 simply because I can build a MUCH better sub for about 2/3rds the price. More power. Cleaner base. Louder base. Better sound. 2/3rds the money... But that assumes you can build your own form fit sub enclosure for whatever subs you pick.

All the other speakers in the car are the same? The head unit is the same with a different name, correct? So I could buy a car with the Shaker 500 and go to a car stereo place and have them install an amp and subs in the trunk for less money and better sound than the Shaker 1000?

Sure you could do that... or at least something that would give you what you're looking for. The one caveat I've heard is that you MAY need to change out much if not all of the speaker wiring... Personally I'm pretty happy with the Shaker 500 so I doubt I'll upgrade it any time soon (unless it starts skipping like a maniac).

There isn't a problem adding an additional external sub to the Shaker 500. It already has sub feed for the front subs. Plus, I would be VERY surprised if there isn't a connector sitting in the back with power, ground, and signal already in it for a sub box. Getting your hands on the right connector to connect to it might be a bit harder. And there IS a possiblity that the signal is a weird one (I have not seen any data one way or another on this), so it might take an adaptor or your install shop might have to run a different lead from the head unit for the new rear sub(s).

And yes, the head unit and speakers are exactly the same for the 500 and the 1000, except for the 1000's 10" subs of course!

Thanks. That makes up my mind. If I see the exact car I ordered except for not having the Shaker 1000, I'll buy it. I can always add to it later if desired.

there is a difference between the 500 and the 1000 . its internally different and the software is different , so it is almost impossible to install it if it wasn't equiped . also the price of buying a 1000 head unit will be $1000 plus if they will even sell it. and it will not function without the dealer loading in the software from there diagnostic unit

just some inside info

hope it helps

I doubt any sub in the trunk that you made can hold 2 10" subs and take up less space than the shaker 1000's enclosure.

And the benefit of stock: I can do whatever the heck I want with it for 7/75000 and its covered.
