Shaker 500 to navigation??

I have a 2006 mustang GT with the shaker 500, how hard is it to switch to the factory navigation? What do I need if
It work? Or is it a big waste of money? I don't want a aftermarket nav I like the look of the stock nav. Thanks for the input.

Easy plug-in change, which I did some 4 years ago. You need the Nav radio (and it needs to be programmed for a Mustang if it isn't already), you'll need a GPS antenna (mounts under the dash, no problem), and you'll need a map DVD if the radio doesn't come with one. Note that the style of radio antenna plug changed in 2007 or 8, so you'll need an adapter for that, too. I see you have a 2006, note that the Mustang didn't bring the vehicle speed data to the radio plug prior to 2007, so you may see an error message initially and the speed-sensitive volume control may not function. The Nav will also freeze in places it looses satellite contact instead of continuing to track by dead reckoning, but that isn't a huge problem. There is a long string on the board here about doing exactly what you want with lots of pictures, so take a look at that.

the factory unit is going to cost a ton. I had a clarion unit that was amazing and cost far less then stock one will.

Yup, if it is in good order that is a real good deal. If it is from a Mustang you may not even need to get it reprogrammed (you can try it out, first...if the button lights work correctly with the panel lights and the sub woofers work it is probably OK). I assume it even comes with a map DVD, so that is a bonus.

Four years ago I bought mine brand new and unprogrammed for $500, and I thought that pretty competitive with 3rd-party units. I did need to program it, but selling the old Shaker paid for that. I really like how it integrates with the car and matches everything...wouldn't be without it! Upgraded Maps come out every year, but little changes and you can look on the Navteq site to see if there are changes in your area. You can usually find the new maps for $150 and the older the maps are the cheaper they get, so you can put in a 2-3 year old disk for as little as $25.

Thanks for the help. And yes it's out of a mustang, and works great! He is selling his mustang and we would switch out head units.

I bought mine through Saleen as a take-off unit...Had the dealer put it in and reflash the computer...there is a glitch between the reflash from the Saleen SuperShaker tune and the nav unit...No big deal really...just have to acknowledge it every time I start the car...I guess that's why Saleen was selling them out of cars they were building....
