Ok, my question here is for those who have already owned cars with the Mach 460 and 1000 systems. These will be fairly comparable to the 05's Shaker 500 and 1000 systems.
I want a system that bumps pretty hard. I've been told that the Mach 460 bumps, but I'm not sure what these people are used to hearing. I play anything from metal to jazz to rap, and I like bass.
Which system should I order?
Obviously, I can just play it safe and order the 1000, but I'd really like to hear the opinion's of people who have actually owned cars with these systems. Thanks.

The Mach 460 just has woofers, no subwoofers. It's pretty loud but it lacks true deep end bass that you can only get from a real subwoofer. I presume the Shaker 500 will basically be the same.
The Shaker 1000 (for what is it $1200?) doesn't sound like a bad deal considering it has subs with seperate amps and a built in 6 CD MP3 changer. Haven't heard it though. Rule of thumb has always been that an aftermarket system for the same price will always outperform a factory stereo except for the Volvo/Dynaudio DTS system. But factory systems are catching up rapidly nowadays, so it just might be a good deal after all. Hard to tell if you can't hear it though

i talked to a ford dealer over the weekend and the lady said the 1000 vs 500 wont be that much different and she liked the 500 because it saves trunk space, but lets be honest there isnt really trunk space with or without the subs in the trunk so if the 1000 sounds better i am goin with it. Also like you guys I want to hear it first to make the end decision

Yeah, I'll def be hearing them before I order (I'm not ordering until Spring), but glad to have some opinions on the issue.
As Boomer brought up (and I had forgotten) the Shaker 500 does have 2 subs in the doors, so that ought to make it better than the Mach 460 was.

I have the Mach 1000 in my Vert, it sounds pretty good, but just that....pretty good...With 1160 watts it should be going boom in the night...and it just doesn't...Does anyone else feel that way...

This peak rating thing is something el cheapo far east companies use. Professional brands always rate in RMS. So if you see for example a Soundstream amp that rates at 1000 watts you can bet it will thumb.
I heard the Mach 1000 in my rental vert couple of weeks ago and I have to agree with you. It was quite okay, but nothing special. But considering that it is nicely integrated with the vehicle (low theft risk), has 6 disc MP3 and actually has resale value come trade-in time it's still an attractive option.

The current 460 sounds crappy compared to mid-level + sound systems. My suggestion if you want a good sound system would be to dump the stock system completely and go all after market.
I usually build my own, but his time I am going lazy with a ZBox H210-S168 with 2 Image Dynamics IDQ10D2 V.2 subs. Heard them a few weeks ago and they sound really good. Followed by a Directed 1200/5 (talk about lazy). If it fits I would like to put in an OmniFi DMP1 contoller and an AudioControl DDC (controlling a DQX) in the stock location. Followed by the Image Dynamics CXS52 or CXS62 depending on what fits in the front. May have to switch to a completely different set depending on the mounting depth. I will probably put something like Image Dynamics CX62s in the rear and run probably 90-150hz to them.
Good news with this setup is everything will be in the trunk. With caps, battery replacement, welding cable for power, misc stuff I figure about $2500. Should be clear and the bass tight well past any reasonable listening levels.
If you get a GT, that head unit might be worth keeping especially if it outputs on an RCA connector.
