Got my car 11/22/04....have had no issues with shaker....then this morning it will not read ANY cds (store/cdrw/mp3)....called dealer and they will remove it and send it off for repair (1-2 weeks)...radio works fine tho..go figure.

What is a good replacement head unit? I don't need GPS or DVD...Was looking at the Sony 8815 model. Local Freemans can get me in and out in about 1 hour for @$355 installed. I did call them and ask if they had done 2005 mustangs and they have done 5. 4 had shaker 500's the other one just had the base stereo.

What do you guys think?
Oh..and please move this if it's in the wrong forum....

Screw the repair. Print the TSB from the sticky section and have them order a new unit. Mine was not accepting one cd and that's enough for me. The dealer ordered a new one yesterday. NO REPAIR....you need a new version of the shaker. Obviously, if you want a different radio, then you'll have to fork out the $$$$$.

Will probably have to find another local dealer....the one I normally use is clueless even with a TSB in hand.

I had asked about other headunits just as an alternative...I might want to use it as an excuse to upgrade

I don't know who ford get's to build these units.... I unerstand it's Delphi? Anyways, I have a 2000 Expedition that has a changer in it. Someone told me they thought the changer was built by Kennwood.... it took a dump yesterday. never had any trouble with it until it sudenly won't even sense that there's any discs in the magazine. It's not like it pulls one out and can't read it, it just doesn't even try....
It would be fine by me if it were under warranty, however, that is long gone. I bought it used and there was no warranty. I'm irritated, because I don't know if it's something I can fix.

If I were you, (and what I plan to do when I get mine) is put a Kenwood Keg in there... I'm not going to pay for the Shaker 1000, but the 500s have had the same problems. I'm just going to use the money I would have spent on the 1000, and get a navigation system and a Keg....

That is AWESOME!! Is there a way to hook the pump into the driveshaft, because I think it will be hard enough to drive and work the tap, much less keep the thing pumped too? Good idea, please post install information ... :tex:

Like Luis said, I wouldn't want a "repair" either. My dealer is replaceing mine Friday alnog with my gas tank. I would insist on a replacement if I were you.

Sorry you've had problems with your Shaker after only four months of use, Jay. Like you said, this may be an opportunity to purchase an upgrade. In the very least, accept nothing less than the next-generation Shaker. If given a choice, I'd choose that over a repair job.

I don't have any make/model suggestions, but a guy I work with just got a stereo from the Crutchfield catalog. He seems happy with it and their customer service. Mail order might save you a few bucks too. Then you could give it to Freemans to install...

Good luck with whatever you decide.

Kera, I'll be anxious to hear how the gas tank replacement goes, and if it solves the refueling problem. I need to have mine replaced as well.

I agree with others, just print the TSB and present it to the dealer, you should be fine after that

Did that...local (small) dealer still had this clueless look and said they would have to check...will try a bigger dealer across town.
