OK so I'm on my 3rd head unit. The first wouldn't play MP3's. The second wouldn't play CD's at all. Now the third one is the worst! It worked great for all of 2 days... Played MP3's and all. Then I went to eject a disc and it started making this horrible grinding noise and wouldn't shut up even if I turned the car off. After about 5 minutes of this it says CD error and won't play or even eject my CDs. Even worse I get the horrible grinding noise every time I get in the car, even though the stereo is in FM mode. I know I have to take it back in for yet another head unit, but does anyone know how to get the CD's out or at least make it stop trying to initialize the CD changer?

I saw on here a long time ago that there was some diagniostic mode for the head unit. I tried to do a search but could not find the topic. Anyone know how to do this? It probably won't help but I'd just like to know anyway.

Thanks!

Can you get it to select a different cd? If you can, select a different cd and eject it. Eject all the cd's until you get to the bad one and eject it as well. If you are using cd's that you put labels on you definately will experience this problem again.

I can't get it to do anything with the cd's. It's like it is trying to initalize or move to one but some gears inside aren't lining up or something. It grinds for about 5 minutes then says cd error. If I try to switch cds or eject one it does the same thing all over again.

I'll be calling the dealer again tomorrow and next time around I'm just gonna install the PIE adaptor and use my Creative Zen player (more storage anyway)! I'm giving up on CDs in the shaker!

Pop the fuse out of the car for the radio until you can get it to the dealer. These Shakers (500 and 1000) both hoover when it comes to feeding / ejecting CD's... I'm to the point now where I just leave mine turned off so it doesn't frustrate me any further and ruin my driving pleasure..

Just FYI...

To engage the diagnostic mode press and hold the "3" and the "6" buttons at the same time when in FM mode. The diagnostic screen will pop up in about 5 seconds or so...

Don't know if that will help you with your problem though. Good luck!

You didn't have any burned CD's in there with paper or plastic CD labels on them, did you? CD labels are a major no-no in the car.

That's what I was thinking. Does the cd have a label? I stopped putting them on my cd's with my last car because it almost ate a couple of them.
