So I have seen a few post on these puddle light/ghost lights that project the mustang logo when the door open. Quick question, I see a lot of people have problems finding a wire to tap off (especially if you don’t have courtesy lights), seems like a pain to run a wire through the doors.
My question- has only tried to a wire coming from the door latch? Has to be a negative or something that door the circuit the door is shut and turns off the dome lights. I attached a picture.
...(especially if you don’t have courtesy lights)...
Not... real sure what's going on with that statement, all 2005+ Mustangs come with interior 'dome' lights in the center console of a coupe, or the center of the bezel where the convertible top switch is...
But in any case, here:

(Symbols are here: http://iihs.net/fsm/?d=40&f=Symbols.pdf&p=3)
That shows the Smart Junction Box (SJB, located in right kick panel) connector wire, which is Light Green/Yellow striped wire coming off it. This is a low power line being faded in/out (timing could be immediate on/off, or on until dimmed... you know how it works by watching it, right?) and you could use that line either from the SJB or the dome light side. Get that as a signal to whatever you're trying to run to hit a *relay*, then power whatever you want off that. Do not directly power stuff with that 'input'.
The other location is here, next page: http://iihs.net/fsm/?d=40&f=Interior%20Lamps.pdf&p=2
That shows both doors open switch wiring, which shows up at the SJB. These are simple 'on/off' things, most likely, and the one's I'd use. And I'd probably just make it so the left door open only puddle lamps the left side, and the right the right.
Of course, you can use some sort of 'logic wiring' with diodes or whatever, or get a lil' smart box like an Arduino or Raspberry PI board to do some sort of 'Left only/right only/both' operations, which is how the SJB works in the first place. Window drop is per door, lamps are either/both. You'd just have to do that work if you wanted, but all *kinds* of fun can be had!
Just don't wire your lights directly to these 'signals', use relays and run separate fused power to make your mods work. Using any of these to power anything is going to cause you to have a bad time. But you already knew that and were planning that, I'm sure.
I believe in ya, you know what to do, get 'er done, and take pics and post 'em! Heck, make a white paper and show us how it's done!
