DO NOT SELL THE '66!!. There, I said it and got it off my chest.
I really don't know the specifics of your '66, but rest assured you will regret it later. I've parted with a '68 and a '65. I had owned the '65 for over 11 years. Even though both were rusty mustang coupes, I still wish I had them parked in the driveway. You can not get that '66 back once it's sold.
I recommend a small sacrifice. Keep the '66- delay the purchase of the '07 and save up the money you would have received from the sale of the '66. In ten years, you'll have that 'old' 07 mustang that you want to trade-in AND the classic '66 from your youth that you'd never dream of parting with.

my friend sold his '69 Mach1 for $50,000 and it was a trade for a GT500, he only ended up paying $5,000 to seal the deal and not pay anything else since the dealer was having a hard time trying to restore his mach with no luck and my friends was all original and had no rust or any problems (garage baby)

I'd keep the '66. The shelby is awesome, but you'll probably end up regreting it later. I know I could never part from my fox, even for a brand new mustang gt. It's a part of me, and I'll probably never be able to let go of it!

No way, I wouldn't. Even though I love my '05 when I see 68's drive past I feel jealous. I really doubt the Shelby GT will be any kind of collector. I think you'd get the best bang for your buck buying a standard GT if you just wanted a new Mustang. With incentives and good credit you won't have to pay an arm and a leg for it either, so you can keep the '66.

They'll make more Shelby GTs. They aren't making '66s anymore. I'd give anything to have my '66 vert back. I loved that car, but now I can't afford to buy one as a toy. Keep the '66. The Shelby is definitely desireable, but as stated above, you didn't get the whole price. Look for that secondary sticker.

Definately keep the 66!! While the Shelby GT is nice they're a GT with wome Shelby bells & whistles ($8300 worth of bells & whistles!) but the 66 is a classic--there's no comparison between the two and you'll regret selling it later. Just my .02

The new Shelby GT has vastly superior technology and from a pure peformance standpoint it is a much better car HOWEVER.....
That '66 is a timeless classic. It is not likely that you will ever get another one and despite the ancient technology they were still fun cars to drive and a pleasure to own.
I would say hang on to the '66 and if you really want the new Shelby GT save your bucks and get one later then you have the best of both worlds.

is the 66 a driver - concours - other?
what condition is the car in?
do you drive the 66 as your only car or do you have another?
which one do you want? i say i would never sell my 64 1/2 - but if the right car came along it would likely be gone.
unlike others' opinions - if this 66 is your primary transportation - theres something to be said for a new car with a warranty and other safety features not even thought of in 66.
theyre just cars and there will always be something else you want. and when you look back there will be something you miss about each one of them (maybe ).
though i would like to have some of my old mustangs back, the only one i truly regret getting rid of is my 66 sprint 200 - which was also my first mustang.i think most everyone regrets getting rid of their first cool car.

thanks for all your input guys...i plan on calling that dealership when i get off work, just out of curiousity on the price due to what im hearing about mistakes........my 66 has been with me since my sophomore year of high school, and i am now a senior in college, it was me and my dads project and passion for years, i could never part ways with it for sentimental reasons, but that shelby is really sexy....and no i didnt see a "shelby" price tag on the car, just the ford one that said 29K.......
as for the condition of my 66, shes been a slow project, but minus a paint job she has been fully restored...200 straight 6 has been rebuilt, interior is original and flawless and i will get some pics of her up when i get home..
again thanks guys
