I don't know about your state but here in Washington State it's a $101 fine for no belt.

Buckle up dude! It'll cost you one way or the other!

I almost always wear my seat belt and had that incessant beeping too when not buckling up. However, the other day I left the belt off as I was just driving out to the street and there was no beeping. I thought that it might have been a timing issue, so I sat there at least two full minutes and it didn't start to beep.

I have no idea why it no longer beeps as I didn't do anything that would alter the status of this beeping.

It's just plain stupid to not wear a seatbelt. This shouldn't even be an issue.

Gee, here we go again The self appointed moral majority.
Did someone maybe consider just answering the question

The procedure to disable it is in the manual.

That wasn't the question BRO.... Nobody asked about the legality of anything. Nobody asked to be lectured by anybody.

The question was simple. How is it disabled?

The answer can be found on page 90 of your owners manual.

That's the difference, I DO think BRO.

Check your owners manual. It is called belt minder. Takes about 2 min to disable it.

Personally, I think if there are people out there who don't want to wear their seatbelts, we should allow them to. Darwinism at its finest, folks.

Its funny cause some people actually think that an AirBag will just save their lives. I'll tell ya what, an airbag wont do you any good withouth a seatbelt, and an airbag hurts worse than a seatbelt. Try rubbing your face on a carpet real hard, and thats what an airbag feels like.

As a firefighter in the emergency services area, I ask everyone to wear their seatbelts, for I have seen some gruesome ways people have ended up after car accidents without wearing a seatbelt. Please, wear your seatbelts.

I disabled the drivers side reminder but left the passenger's functioning. Seems to be the best idea for me.

It is my god given right to be killed by the airbag if i don't want to wear a seatbelt. People are killing themselves slowly with every puff of there cigarettes but you don't see the man ticketing smokers. This a car forum not a Driving Safety School. We do appreciate you saving lives though.

Arrow

Yeah, the dinging is ANNOYING!
I don't need a ding to remind me to put it on..
..I do regardless...don't get me wrong, its like breathing, it just happens.

but I DO disable it because if i"m stting in my garage waiting for the car to warm up or what have you, it dings and drives me crazy.

So not everyone who wants to disable it is doing it because they drive without the belt....

If you DON'T wear your seatbelt while driving...
Well..
Thats just plain silly....you might as well play russian roulette...

totally agree

its been so long since i've performed the "exorcism" of the seat belt chime i cant remember the steps. i think i had to turn on the key, get out of the car, run around it 3 times or so.....something to that effect. actually its not that bad but it took 2 tries. check th manual, you'll need it in front of you when going throuh the steps

I typically wear mine but the dinging is annoying... Soooo I disabled mine. Instructions in the owner's manual are clear and easy to follow.
