The other day I was on an empty stretch of country road so I thought I would try something. I stopped, and then pushed on that gas pedal thingy all the way down.
Then it happened, I heard a roar followed by long screeching noise. When I looked in my mirror I saw lots of smoke. Did I break something? Also my tires must be dirty because they left two long black marks on the road.

Light hearted post, feel free to add to it.......

Hmm, not sure about the smoke, but the first 2005 were missing some bolts on the bellhousing, and there was a metal plate that would vibrate and screech (my car still does that). Does that sound like high-pich, metal vibe ?

The smoke, screeching noises, and dirty tires are perfectly normal when you press the "gas pedal thingy" to the floor like that.

In fact, it's a no cost option - until you remove all the "dirt" from the tires!

Moving this to the main forum since this does not belong in the issues section.

The same thing happened to me the other day, except it also felt like the car fishtailed a bit too. Maybe there is a TSB issued.

I think there's a TSB for that. Go check with you dealer for the excessive torque TSB.

I think I have a somewhat related problem. When driving in the rain, and pushing down on the "gas pedal thingy" pretty hard, in first and second gear the car wants to spin out. I also get this message that says "traction active." Why would I ever want it to be passive???

Come to think of it, I to have had the screeching and smoke. I usually get some people staring at me, so it MUST be bad.

I guess we should take our cars to the dealer and have them ride with us so we can recreate the problem for them.

Also had a similar problem, with a twist!! (literally).

Was sitting at a light and the wife points to the store on our left and says "we have to go there now before they close!" and I said "Okay baby!" and...you know that tire-shaped turn-thingy that goes between you and the speed-meter dealybob? I push-pulled that real hard to the left, put the pot-stirrer-thing in the same direction, mashed the right-foot-pushy-deal and let up on the left-foot-pushy-deal like youre s'posed to.

Well instead of going right into the store like I thought it would, I got the same weird screeching noise you're talking about and the smoke, like it was burning a whole lotta oil or something, right? The car did a complete circle around itself kinda like, and when we both stopped screaming, we saw we had gone all the way around and were still sitting in the turn lane, in the exact same place we started from! It was like I had my foot pushed down real hard on the middle-foot-pushy-thing that makes the wheels not go 'round so much, but only the wheels on the left were trying not to go 'round, and the wheels on the right were all speed-like!!!

It gets worse.....would you believe, we went straight to the dealer to have this checked out ASAP, since we didnt know what to make of it. When I explained it to the tech, he looked at me like I had lobsters crawling out of my ears. He drives it and comes back with the usual "No Problem Found". Right!!!

So I went to show him and actually demonstrated this to the tech dept PLUS all their customers right there on the lot in front of the showroom!!! We musta went around in about a hundred circles with this car making all kinds of racket and huge clouds of that smoke(how much oil is back there, anyway?) and these people are staring like they've never seen this problem before! As if!!

You could tell by the embarassed looks on their faces that they knew exactly what it was, because the manager comes out all red-faced and tells me he has the cops on the way....obviously not wanting his prospective customers to become aware of this potential safety issue.....and immediately we smell a big fat cover-up. Local PD is obviously in cahoots with this dealer as well, they would hardly listen to my side of the story. You can bet your bottom dollar that when they let me outta here I'm definitely gonna be writing a strongly-worded letter to the local Ford rep about this.
