I am in the process of buying a 2007 GT that the original owner put the SD chrome/satin trim around the taillights and 3rd brake light. What is the best method to remove these without damaging the lights?

you can use fishing string to cut through 3m tape.

It also helps if it is warm outside....or you can use a hair dryer to heat it up, just be careful not to get it too hot. I forgot to heat up the 3M tape under my spoiler when removing and it would have been much easier had I warmed it up. You might also look at applying something like Goo Gone. I used that for removing the tape on my spoiler and it seemed to help a little bit. I know it's fine to use on the paint and sheet metal, but I'd double check the bottle, just to make sure it is fine on the plastic parts. I'm guessing it would be, but worth double checking first.

I had a light bulb moment after I posted the question. My kid sister is a graphics artist, and has done several vehicle wraps and stripes, along with other trim pieces, so I asked her. She said hair dryer to heat before trying to remove, then goo gone. Once the adhesive residue is gone, wipe with rubbing alcohol to complete.
