Saw a very rare S197 today
Was going in for a detail that I'd won, and they had this sitting on the lot. I'd taken some cell phone pics, but theirs are better. It's the only black Saleen PJ ever made. Apparently the dealership had purchased 25 PJ's, and didn't want 25 orange cars sitting on the lot, so they somehow got one in black. It's the only one to come black from the factory, according to the owner of the lot. It's hard to lie about since it's easy to check, so I'm willing to believe him. Either way, it's nice!

Here is the window sticker for the car.....something ain't right.

I'm sure there was when it was new. But the only one I could get was the Ford WS. This car was built as Grabber Orange and then must have been repainted later on. Maybe at Saleen, if that is the case I am sure they could tell a perspective buyer.
Gosh I wish I could remember the thread where this was shown before. A dealer was charger a rediculous dealer markup and repainted them because he thought nobody was buying them because they were orange.

I'm thinking this was done by the original dealer now. It's all seeming fishy. While it's technically still rare, if it wasn't factory, I think that degrades the value.
I believe I remember the same thing. It only hurts the value if it was done without Saleen documentation. If Saleen painted it black or if the dealer painted it black with Saleen being in on it and it is recorded as such then it helps the value IMHO. But if it was just painted black by a dealer so he could sell it then it lessens the value in my eyes. Even though it still looks pretty sweet black
I'm not sure if this is true, but should the engine bay not also be grabber orange if it was originally? Did they fully strip the entire body, engine bay, etc, to do the paint, then put it all together again??
A local dealer Ken grody ford, painted two pj's black. all 500 pj's came from saleen in grabber orange.
these two pj's appear on ebay all the time, looks like the story seems to get bigger as they go from dealer to dealer!

I called on that car in Feb of 2008 and the dealer confirmed they (not Saleen) painted it black. Including the engine bay.

Well at that price I would buy it. (The one that showed 25k that is.) No way @ 60k.
Hell getting a true 302 engine with all of the other PJ upgrades ? For 25k ? Pfffft Its black...WHO CARES! I would buy it then drop a Supershaker in and still get the No# for having a SUperShaker PJ.
Hell at that price, I would just have the PJ paint job redone.....hell keep i black and do the trim in silver ! At the end of the day, its still a PJ..even if its the wrong colour. Hell who knows...it could be worth more than a regular PJ one day..like a upside down stamp..
