On the truck that was delivering some cab & chassis trucks to us was a Sonic Blue GT going to the local dealer. They usually stop by us first so I get to see most of the new cars the dealer is getting.
The sun was out and it REALLY caught all the colors of this paint.
I think the only way to describe this color is it's probably only one or two steps down from true color-shifting paint.
I mean it wasn't a subtle "oh it looks like it has a little bit of a purple shade to it if you look at it just right"
No. It was definitely purple... and definitely blue. The blue is a beautiful color of blue, too.
Maybe it was just the way I was standing. The car was on the first level of the truck so my eye level was even with the middle of the door.
With the sun over my right shoulder from an angle, I could look straight at the car and to the right and I saw a sparkly blue. When I looked in the other direction, it was all purple. (and no sparkles)
OK, that was probably too descriptive, but I don't want anyone to take my experience the wrong way. I'm trying to be as objective as possible. Hence the detailed explanation.
I was amazed at how much the color changed. If you like the Mystichrome Cobra, but it was just a little "too much" for you, or it had too many different colors in it, you'll LOVE this color.
Personally, it's not for me, but that's good news beacuse that's one less color on my list I have to choose from.

JMO,
Jason

Jason, you're absolutely correct about how the Sonic Blue changes color depending on the angle you're looking at it and the angle the light is striking it. That's one of the things I love about it, and one of the reasons I chose that color.

I can't tell you how surprised I was at how much the color changed.
I wonder if this is going to be a trend for Ford?
I don't remember Sonic Blue changing THAT much on the SN95's I'd seen before. Has it always changed so much?
It looked great, it's just not for me.
Maybe if they do something similar in a dark green.

Sorry to dig up this month old thread, but for those of you that own sonic blue, I was amazed by it tonight, it was dark out and I was putting on the license plate, had to grab a flash light so I could see the guide holes. Well anyway as I stood up to go inside, I still had the flashlight on and my spoiler was purple, this paint is pretty cool, definitely changes depending on how the light hits it, if the light hits directly, its blue, but if the light hits at a 90 degree angle or so, its purple. Oh well, just didn't want to start a new thread.

The colorchange effect of sonic seems most apparent at dusk/dawn or at night with the streetlights.

There is a sonic lightning parked at my Gym all the time, I can't help but stop and take a look at it.

ya the light definitely changes it. Under a direct street light, its purple. But where the sun hits it is an absolutely incredible blue.

I agree about the blue. I absolutely love it, but the purple's not for me.

I've got an '02 Sonic Blue SVT Focus. Great color. It looks various shades of blue all the way to purple depending on the light.

I've been seeing that with all the metallic colors.

Redfire can almost look orange under the right light, in darker light it's a rich dark red. Mineral grey can look anywhere from a light brown to a grey slate color.

I can attest to the Sonic Blue shifting as well. I think it's pretty cool.
