Since I don't have it now, I have to go off the calculations given to me by the motor trend article... low 13 sec times for the 05 mustang GT

A guy I work with has a Corolla that he's swapping in an 03 matrix engine and transmission into. He says it will "decimate all" (yes, directly from the Fast and the bi-curious). NO offense to anyone who actually enjoyed the film, just not my type of flick. Anyhow, I got on one of those handy dandy horsepower quarter mile time calculators and figured it out. He claims his car is 2200 lbs and I added 150 pounds for his weight. With the 03 matrix engine he claims pushing about 190 horsepower. I haven't actually checked the Matrix motor's horsepower, but I punched in 200 on the calc. The math all came out to high 13's. About a half second behind the mustang GT. I pointed this out to him, and then he threw in he was gonna add on a supercharger so I gave him a bonus 50 more horsepower and he still barely squeeked in on the 05's reported quarter times. Just something I thought I'd throw in, good for the humor value of it, if nothing else.

now that I've looked into it some more the numbers actually get worse... the 2005 Matrix XRS puts out a whopping 170 screaming horses. So that makes the numbers by far funnier.

Perhaps he will put several stickers on it. We all know each sticker adds 10 horsepower. A 6 inch exhaust tip should also add around 100 horsepower. If he gets an aftermarket universal wing made of fiberglass or aluminium with these other mods he should be in the 10's no problem.

You left out the under-carriage neon lighting system! The car will never reach 10's without one of those!

... You mean he doesn't even know that the Corolla, Celica, and Matrix use the same 1.8L four-banger?

The only difference between them is the circuitry. Same block, heads, everything else...

2nd that Boomer.... though he may ring out 200 FLYWHEEL horsepower, the torque on a 4 popper isn't going to be enough to carry that car 1320 feet in 13 anything. it's going to take him 6 seconds to get into his optimal torque range. I'd like to see that.
However, I have been surprised as heck before. I got my **** handed to me by an old Audi Quatro one time when I was in my '88 GT (auto). Looks were very deceiving that night.

The 03-05 Corolla, Celica, Matrix have the Base Engine (VVT-I) and puts out Max 130 HP stock. The Matrix XRS, and Celica GT-S and the new Corolla XRS (05) have the VVTL-I and would put out a max of 175 HP from factory.

Is he putting on anything else like exhaust, headers or CAI??? the Super C will only give him about 40 HP max and THIS IS ONLY AVAILABLE FOR THE VVT-I ENGINE . Which brings his max totals to...

180 with catback, super C (replaces the Shortram), and if he put headers on... or we can't forget about NOS.. and you can catch him in a lie, ask whether hes putting in a Wet or Dry NOS system... the VVT-I can run both ... but i think hes doing the VVTL-I and it can only do the wet system and still be able to be driven afterwards...

BTW, that last post was from my friend Gene. He happens to own a 2005 Matrix XRS. So, I'm assuming he would know.

darn i forgot all about that. Also must add the blue headlights and the lights on the washer nozzles. With all that he should be in the 8's.

You also forgot the roof scoop. With that think sitting on top of the car it should make it an easy 7 sec. beast.
