Here's a link to a website showing residual value of cars. Looks like the Mustang GT Coup has the best residual value out of all cars. I couldn't come up with anything better than this car. Looks like Ford hit a home run for us.

I did not lease my Mustang. But this is what I remember from my banking days. A Residual Value is the projected value of a car after depreciation over a period of time. For example, the cars.com show the residual value for a Mustang GT coup after two years is 72%. That's really good. Better than BMW's, Honda's, Toyota's and all the other cars I looked at on the website. Hope this helps.

It is hard to think that the leasing companies are setting RV on a GT500 10 pts less than a coupe. If you figure that the average GT500 is 20G's over msrp then the residual is actually about 33% of what is being paid right now. Does this mean I can get a two year old Shelby for less than a GT, I wish. No the bank is betting that the base value of the car holds and won't bank on the options. Common banking practices.

What about modded mustangs how does the residual value hold up for us?

Technically residual value is for leasing. You would never mod a leased car (other than easy bolt-ons). Now, over the last decade or so the benchmark for the used market has been the residual values for the most part, so they go hand in hand. To answer your question, modding your car generally decreases its value. Most folks don't want anything to do with a modded car and often equate modding to racing/abuse. If you find the right buyer who values what you've put into the car you'll do OK, but finding that guy would be another issue. Part of the fun of modding cars is doing it yourself to your liking. Who wants to buy a car that doesn't need tweaking? Every time I mod a car I keep all of the original parts so I can take it back to as close to stock as possible. Then I would sell off all of the parts or move them to another car. You usually lose money on the deal if you sell the car with the mods.
