Just trying to get a feel here for folks who have had problems with their Shaker headunits (repeated bad disc errors, the 'song backing up' anomoly, sudden skipping to next song, etc...), taken to the dealer for the replacement head unit, and now have their new one installed.

Problems gone?......

The strange thing that my Shaker does is when it skips, its always on the same songs, I know there is nothing wrong with the disc, one of the discs was brand new with no scratches or smudges on it. So who knows what the problem is.

I'd like to rip mine out and throw it down the freeway like a bowling balll LOL.I love the car as a whole, but the shaker is a sore spot....Fine for radio listening but the cd player is absolutely terrible....Everyone seems to concur after numerous posts on this site in the past...Such a shame that Ford advertised the stereo system so much and it's so bad....wanted new rims, but the next major change for me will be to yank this thing and replace it with something functional....The excelon series (Kenwood i think) of dvd double DIN systems looks really nice and can be had on Ebay for like 850-999.....

I am almost embarassed to admit. but I own Elton Johns greatest. The shaker is telling me something.....This cd went from the store to the shaker immediately. Hates it.
Also hates GNR,Pink Floyd and the stones......

Gonna have it replaced sooner or later... see if it helps, but replace with shaker. I have a superstition about aftermarkets- every car I ever had aftermarket stuck in, has been totaled- I kid you not.

I hope my curse with Fords doesn't continue with this one, my history of auto's:

'85 Honda Accord (1996-1999) - never wrecked
'93 Ford Probe (1999-1999) - wrecked and totaled
'94 Ford Probe (1999-2000)- 2 accidents, first minor, second totaled
'94 Ford Mustang (2000-2002) - wrecked once, ~4k worth of damage
'02 Pontiac Grand Prix (2002-2005) - never wrecked
'05 Ford Mustang (2004- )- ????

The only thing that might save me is that all the wrecks occurred in one city.

No way I'm putting another shaker500 in here unless I knew it was gonna work perfectly....The idea of the touchscreen dvd setup with navigation is just too good to pass up.....the crappy Shaker makes the decision easy for me....if it worked fine I'd probably never switch, but this gives me my opportunity....muahahaha!

I was one of the first to have a problem with the Shaker 1000 skipping and ejecting my CD's, saying Bad Disk, etc. It took a couple of swap-outs, but all of the problems are now fixed.

First swap out, the new Shaker had a different engineering number on it than the original and the back-lit lights on the buttons didn't work. Ford dealership ordered another one -- same exact problem so they left Shaker #2 in. They called in to the distributor and was sent a detailed list of instructions on "programming" the new Shaker. So to the dealer I went with the car. It only took about 1 hour. They re-programmed the Shaker #2 and now everything is working great!

I had a great head unit installed and to tell you the truth I never had a problem with my shaker 500. I just wanted to have an iPod connection. It has the 7" touch screen and the dvd player with a iPod interface. It also has an extra RCA input. For them that like to play video games in the car.

My Shaker 500 is great, unless you attempt to play any source material (i.e., CDs) in it. New or old, scratched or flawless, two words: Bad Disc

I think its posessed.....

One thing you guys may want to consider is that the head unit seems to deal with MP3 burned discs better than standard. I noticed this as well with my sony head unit in my old car. I can put a normal CD in there, but it handles the MP3 ones much better. That also has the side benefit of more songs per disc.

I get that as well...Bad Disc, it ejects, I reload it and it works. Turn off the head unit, then go through the process all over again...

Wow, I thought my auto history was bad. The 05 is my 5th car and all previous cars, including the one I got at 17, has been wrecked by my fiancee. All but one were wrecked more than once, and one was totaled. He even backed down the side of my 01 Mustang with a 40 ft. flat bed trailer! BTW has anyone had a problem with the shaker just not doing anything at all? This morning I start the car and nothing, its on but didn't respond to changing from radio to cd. It finally started working but not the way to start a Monday.

April, my car must have met Eleanor somewhere in transit b/c the cd that should have been playing was GNR-Use Your Illusion.

Ok, here is the scoop. All I know is that the dealer service department had a print out of instructions they got from the Shaker 1000 supplier. The repair was done this past Saturday. I'll keep you posted as to how the new, re-programmed unit works.

I only got to drive the car Saturday, Sunday, then to the body shop on Monday The body shop is in town where I work. The Dealer where I purchased cmy '05 from is 2 hrs away with no body shop. My car is supposed to ready to go this afternoon. I was rear-ended November 30, 2004. Had to have a new rear bumper. Then before the bumper came in, I was driving to work on the interstate during high winds and a flying evergreen bush pinged the hood. Soooo, PDR guys are popping out the dent for me -- no painting on hood. Do you think my car is hexed or cursed or jinxed???? I sure hope not.

As for details on instrutions, I'm sure that if you take your car in to the Dealership, if they don't already know about this re-programming, have them call the Service Department at Mooney Motors in Charleston, Illinois at 888-684-3673 and they would be happy to share. Just tell the Service Department Elizabeth sent you. I know it only took about 1 hour to complete.
