like i said before..the concept is nothing more than a styling exercise because it is not a concept. A concept means that it was made before the production design. we may see some of the elements on other cars but I'm not holding my breath.

I bet quite a few "concept" cars are a done this way, given how much time car companies take to go from design to production nowadays. It's easy to spot the "real" concepts though...they simply don't look like anything that would go into production. And they never say "coming in 2007" or whatever.
Why would they show a concept that was designed after produciton? Publicity...start building up interest and anticipation...throw it out there with concept styling changes because it was too early to show the real car, yet they wanted to create a buzz. Even if the real car design was finished already, they can't show it TOO long before actual release or else people would be turned off. If they said "Here - this is exactly what it will look like. But you can't buy one for another two and a half years" that would be frustrating.

I found this in my directory of pictures, it was online well before the production photos were released, it has some slight differances from the current production photos, but I remember seeing the "pace car" one last year around this time

I'm not sure I'm convinced that the production car was already in development when the concept was designed.

I agree with Boomer here. The concept was executed perfectly. It IS the production car, but in a form in which it is obvious that it was a CONCEPT vehicle. Most didn't expect the concept to resemble the production exactly.
I also think the production looks much better. As a result, I'm not at all disappointed with the production vs. the concept. I'm actually pleased that they kept the two so similar. We still got the great look of the concept body and a similar interior.
