Got these installed last night. Couldn't be happier with this product (and no, I don't work for Redline, just know a great product when I see one).

I got the black kit, and paid a bit extra to get the brackets powder coated black (which Redline will do as a special order). Looks really pro imho. If not for the Redline logos, this could pass for a factory item.

To quote a Ford salesman (who shall remain nameless) I showed this to this afternoon: "This is the way the cheap Bas***ds SHOULD have done it"!

(and before anyone says anything, I know my engine bay could stand a cleaning and detailing, doing that tonight )

 

How hard was the installation?

I was looking at the MRT's, because they were bolt-ons, but those Redlines look mighty tempting. Might be worth the extra effort.

In a word: Easy. A little measuring, carefully drill a few holes and install the brackets with pop-rivets. I can't picture the total install taking more than a 1/2 hour, even allowing for being careful not to scratch anything with tools, etc.

 

Hardest part about the install is remembering to wrap tape around your drill bit.

I agree the Redline Tuning hood struts rock. This is the 3rd Ford vehicle that I've installed them on. My biggest issue was drilling into the fender just next to the strut tower.

You know the RedLine Tuning logo can be removed...atleast that's what I always do.....They would have to give me free parts to advertise.....

 

Yeah, I know it's just a sticker, but since these guys threw together a custom kit for me (black powdercoating on the brackets), and shipped it out the door in less than 12 hours from the time I ordered, I figure I can let them have a little advertising space. I don't really mind their logo on the struts (which doesn't look half bad imho)

I installed them too. I painted my clips with the body color paint.

Some Dealer guys thought it was factory when they saw mine. Then when I told them I did it, they said the same, that it should be factory.

Did you remove the factory kickstand after installing the new struts?

 

I did, it is no longer needed, and looks like poop, and reduces weight (ha!).

 

I installed the Elite struts today, and they are great! I have to admit; I left the old prop rod in place, since I figured it was the best place to store it!

 

I'll remove it as soon as I get a polished cover made without holes for the rod clips. I found the empty clips bother me more than the uneeded rod lying there for now.

 

That's funny, seeing the worthless 3 foot long rod everytime I opened the hood was bothering me. I don't even notice the clip.

 

I have searched the world over and can not find a #11 (indexed) drill bit or anyone who knows what it is either.
Any suggestions?

You can get a drill index set from 1-60. Not sure how much they are, but MSC ships very fast.

 

Just use the standard drill mentioned in the directions and carefully enlarge the hole. Industrial drills are numbered by index if you can find an index to standard conversion card that would help you figure out the standard equivalent. But, it is easier to just take your time and reem the hole. Worked fine for me.

#11 is about a 3/16" There is no standard size closer than that.
