I realize folks have been talking about how ingenious (or not) the new Stang's system will be, but having not ordered one myself (which may be a mistake who knows) I can't help but wonder, is it really necessary?

My understanding of the passive anti-theft was that the motor simply won't turn w/o recieving the computer code from the keys. That being the case, what are the remaining reasons for forking over the extra dough for the "active" system?

Seems to me about the only way to actually steal (short of towing :shock: ) a new Stang would be to car jack one, and if someone is willing to go that far, I doubt any number of clever sensors or chirping horns would make much difference. Still, I know quite a few of you have ordered one, and was just wondering what your main considerations might have been for choosing to do so :scratch:

 

Active alarms help protect from other things like wheels, stereo and/or content theft.

 

Around our neighborhood most thiefs check for car alarms first, they are more likely to break into a car that doesnt have one vs a car that does have one.

Expecially on your own property. I'll be putting one in my stang.

 

Besides, you'll get insurance premium discounts...

 

If my car has to sit on the driveway, I have to do what I can to protect it from the stealing scum.

 

Don't have a big problem with theft being I live out in the sticks. But I will take any discount on insurance I can get. I am sure the saving on insurance would make up for the cost eventually?

Guess I'll find out when I see how much the option is and how much of a savings I have with it.

Buy a hitch package from Ford and tie a rotweiller to it. I also suggest using a 50ft leash.

Anybody know much in the way of prior insurance premium discounts with and w/o the active anti-theft? I'm trying to make a ball park guess as to long it would take to pay for itself (which of course we might be in a better position to guestimate once we know pricing).

In any event, thanks to all for the feedback. I'm thinking I'll see if I can't amend my order tomorrow morning (since Ford has yet to pull it anyway) to include the anti-theft system, for those few scenarios that my dear friend Beretta won't be able to solve.

That's true, you do get around a 10% discount. That anti-theft system will definately pay for itself.
