Rear view mirror removal

Ok, I searched and couldn't find anything on this. How do you remove the rear view mirror? Do you need a special tool to insert into the slot? There doesn't appear to be any screws.

I tried inserting a small screwdriver, but I didn't feel any resistance. Anyone know how to do this?

You need a thin bladed regular screwdriver. Insert the screwdriver into the base of the mirror (blade pointing up) and VERY VERY VERY GENTLY pull toward the mirror to compress the metal tab as you pull the mirror base upward.

Don't use too much force with the screwdriver - if you do you will crack your windshield.

It's not as hard as it sounds, I stressed over the windshield cracking part when I replaced my stock mirror with my Gentek. Once you get the mirror off you will see what a cheap POS that mirror base really is.
