Hello all,
Has any of you notice a wierd squeezing effect on the rear view mirror?

When I looked at other cars behind me in the side mirrors, the cars look normal, but out of the rear view mirror the cars look skinnier.

Any thoughts?

2 weeks ago in the V6 I rented in Florida I did notice some distortion out of the rear window looking through the rear view mirror. I thought it was just a one car thing obviously it's not since you noticed it too.

Any one else?

I have notice the same effect. If you flip the day/night switch and readjust the mirror for day time driving, it seemed to be better for me. Maybe this will work for you, give it a try.

It's the distortion effect. It may be hazardous to the health of any car that can't pass you. The only vehicles this does not seem to effect are those sporting a red light on top (when illuminated of course).

I have this REALLY bad problem with my rear view mirror vibrating really bad, and blurring all the cars behind me - so much that is starts to weird out my eyes if I look too long......

Funny though....... when I don't have the Shaker 1000 cranked, everything is fine......... crazy!!!

Well, that indicates that the rearview mirror is convex too, providing a wider angle of view, just like the side mirrors. Can any of you lucky owners eye it and see if that's the case? If so I guess it's just beneficial.

it could be the rear window glass...on mine if I look at a car in the mirror between the 4th and 5th defroster line, it is slightly distorted

Depends on the glass in the rear window. My Mark would squish the cars in the lower 1/5th of the window. Funny stuff. "Dude, I SWEAR you have a flat!"

They make the glass a tad thicker in some areas for strength, and the curve of the glass helps to finish off the effect.

There.

Mine does it also. Vehicles behind me appear taller and skinnier. I would guess that it has to do with the shape of the rear window. Vehicles behind me appear distored from some vantage points, while from other viewing angles cars appear normal.

Sounds excellent to ogle at the less-than-perfect ladies through. Sorta like beer goggles!

As Franco would say while pulling the rear view mirror off of the Ferrari:

"First rule of Italian driving, whats a behind me is not important."
