I've searched around, but haven't had any luck seeing an actual picture of the rear set leg area, with the front seat in a normal drivers position.

Here's the thing. I went to the ford dealer the other day, and all they had were cars in the show room, with the seat all the way back, and the batteries disconnected, so the seats could not be moved forward. There was no (maybe an inch) of leg room in the back seat. On my 02, even with the drivers seat all the way back, there is probally 4 inches of leg room, which is still functional in a pinch.

I don't expect alot of back seat space, but I still require a functional back seat, as on occasion I have to cram someone back there for short trips. (Thats how my 02 is. You can transport somone, but it isn't crown vic back there!)

Can anyone here comment on this, or post a picture. I would really appreciate that.

From what I understand, the 05 has more rear legroom than the 04 by an inch or two. I've sat in the back after putting the drivers seat in my driving position(5'10") and had enough room. Hope this helps.

I was concerned about that too. So I got a few picks of members of the mustang source in the back seats (there's a link some where) about this a long time ago .
But the new mustang is 6 inches longer than the fox body adding a little more room in the back seat area.

 

You're not going to have any room to speak of for adults to sit in back regardless of where you have the drivers seat positioned (unless they're midgets). The back seat is going to be for (1) kids, or (2) storage. I'm going down to the Ford store today, and if I can remember to take my didgital with me, I will snap a photo of the the driver seat in the 'central' position.

 

With all due respect, I disagree. I wouldn't take someone for a long haul, but a 5'10" or shorter person can run around town inthe back, lunches, etc... I've sat in the back, and I had enough room for my legs.

Thats all I am looking for. My wife, who is about 5'10" has had to ride in the back on a few occasions, when I've had to carry a thrid taller person in the car. She complains a little, but still fits in there. Thats all I need for the 05. Thanks for the responses thus far.

 

While people are taking pics, could someone with kids throw a carseat in the back. I have a 2 year old and my wifes only argument about getting an 05 is not being able to fit him back there. Been able to shoot down any other objections thanks to this site

 

There should be no problem fitting a 2 year old with a car seat back there,I belive (I could be wrong )the child safety hooks are back there built into the top of the back deck .If you want to make sure head down to the dealer with the car seat and check for fit before buying just to make sure that you are both happy with the car .As well I recommend getting the side air bags in the seat for added protection for your loved ones .

 

Try adjusting the passenger seat. Isn't that mechanical instead of eletrical?

I sat in the back of that one with the drivers seat in position. Moved the seatback up in the pic just for the photo.

Is it tight? Sure it is; it is still a Mustang rear seat. But pretty comfortable; better than any other Mustangs I have had or been in. Read my topic for more details.

 

i'm 6'4, my dealer is 6'5. for kicks, he sat behind me on the testdrive. I can't say he was lounging in the abundance of space, but he fit, and lasted the entire 25 minutes or so. After I bought my GT, I took my GF and friend to vegas, he's about 5'10 or so and sat in back for the 8 hour round trip without (much) complaint.

I agre with Jason. On one occasion I was in the back seat behind my son. He is 5' 10" and I am 5' 11". Leg room was adequate. Head room was a little tighter.

 

well, if there isn't enough room in the back seat, there is considerably more room in the trunk than the '04 for your passengers that might complain about riding in the back seat.

 

It's really not nearly as bad as you would think. It's a lot better than previous Mustangs, for sure. I took my little brother and two of his friends out for a drive the other day. They are 17 and one of the kids who sat in the back was about 6'. And they had no complaints.

 

I also disagree with you. Several people have already wrote in previous posts that they had 4 guys, all over 6ft in the car with no big issues. Would you want to go on a 3 hour trip, heck no....afterall, I'd rather be driving by myself. Who needs the other half always saying "slow down, look out, oh my god (well that can be a good thing), why are you trying to outrun the police?"

 

just fold down the seat and lounge all the way to where your going....

 

Its definatly for non-paying customers. Other then the headroom being a little tight, its not THAT bad for a sports coupe. You do have to manipulate the seats quite a bit to shoehorn someone back there though.

 

Of course not, they were getting a ride in a brand new 05 Mustang.
