I recently noticed that all of the 2005 Mustangs I've seen at the dealers locally seem to have the front seats pushed all the way back, such that there is NO (and I mean zero) leg room in the rear seats.

For a driver around 5'10" tall, will there be any room in the back seat for a passenger other than a kid in a car seat??

Or is the 05 Stang basically a 2-seater with indoor storage in the rear?

I haven't ever sat in the back of a mustang where I felt comfortable and I'm only 5'7 and I'm sure it isn't any different with the 05

I remember in my dads 67 fastback we rode in the back with our legs stretched into the opposite foot well...even that will be revisited in the retro 05..I'm just glad the seat goes as far back as it does for us over 6 footers...

I'm 5'5", I was actually impressed with the amount of room in the rear. It's a lot more comfortable than the late 80's Camaro's/Firebird's (only that I have experience in... and no, don't go there.) The quarter windows really help to avoid clostrophobia and the rear buckets are sunk in well. As always, IMO!

Before you drive away next time, turn around and look at the back seat---the back of your driver's seat is probably almost (if not actually) touching the rear seat.

I guess the rear seat is the "penalty box" . I know that the rear seat of Mustang has never been known for roomy comfort, but the 05 looks tighter than ever. My 65 fastback has reasonable rear room, enough to put a Playmate cooler or something on the floor behind the front seats.

Oh well, primarily driver and shotgun passenger...thanks Rex for your input on my 2 questions tonight.

How tall were the driver and front passenger while you were enjoying the back seat roominess?? [No sarcasm; just curious...]

No problem. 5'5" and 5'4", my wife and I jumped in the back after we were comfortable in the front. FINALLY, a benefit to being short, now if only I could reach the clutch easier.

The rear is more roomier than the old mustang but the front seat can slide back further. Personally I wish the Stang was about 3 inches shorter if you want rear seat room buy a four door. The Stang should be a 2+2 if it was shorter it would be lighter. The rear is for quick trips and stuff IMHO.

Thanks, John, that gives perspective. I am 5'10"; my son is 6'0"; my wife is about 5'3". We'll all be quite comfy in the front, my wife has bad knees so she won't be getting in and out of the back; son can sit sideways in the rear while Mom rides shotgun.

Most of the time, I will be in it alone, commuting to and from work, with the occasional friend riding shotgun. No carpools I suppose....someone else will have to drive when the gang goes out to lunch.

Thanks !!

No, this is my "mid-life crisis" car so I want sporty, not a four door.

Maybe next time or the time after that....but for now, it's my turn.

Not complaining about the rear space, just asking and anticipating.

Tis true! We drove ours to PA from S. FL and there just wasn't quite enough room for our 5 yr old in the back-legs that is.

I disagree, since I have an 05. I am 6'1". I had 4 people in the car and my wife (5'7") sat behind me. We were all very comfortable. Sure I had to move the seat up a bit but big deal, I have had to do that with all of my cars when someone had to sit behind me.

Let one of hubbys buddies drive my 05 two nights ago. Hubby is 6'2. His buddy is 6'0. Friends g/f is 5'8, and I am 5'9. (we are all pretty tall). The g/f and I sat in the back seat as the boys played with my new toy. I had never sat in the back seat in my 99, but, my daughter had said there was a lot more room in the 05, and I gotta say, I was fairly comfortable. I used to say that the back seat was a storage bench... not a seat. Would tell anyone who had to sit back there that they had to cut thier legs off at the knees, LOL

I wish they just got rid of the back seat. I never use it except to throw stuff back there.

It adds weight and expense - why have it at all?

I'm 5'10" and I drive my 2004 regularly with kids in the back seat without adjusting my seat (and them not complaining). Every once in a while we will go out to dinner with another couple in this car and I'll move the seat up a few inches ... and it's not too uncomfortable on a short drive for 4 average size people (150-175 lbs.).

The 2005 is supposed to have even more room.

Mustangs have small backseats, if you want a car with more room buy an Accord.

I agree! Its a waste. But then someone I told that to one time said its there to save on insurance. A 2 seater cars insurance would be higher than the 4 seater. Made sense I guess.
