Good deal... officer safety first. Much harder to get whacked by a passing vehicle on the passenger side and it throws off the motorist who is expecting to do harm to the officer as he approached the drivers window. I bet you really like it that I put one spotlight in your rearview mirror and the other in your drivers side mirror, trying to blind you as to my approach. I could care less if you don't have the common sense to adjust your mirrors... I'm going home in the morning.

Again... good police work... he's not at your window so he might miss the alcohol on your breath or the smell of burnt marijuana on your clothes if he's talking to you though the passenger window.

Boo Hoo... you're the one that he decided to stop. Nothing says I have to stop the guy going 75 versus the guy going 73, it's called discretion and it's how traffic stops turn into much more than speeding tickets. You're driving a 25 year old car and you don't think that the speedo might be 1-2 mph off?

I write people for not using thier signal when pulling over all the time... sometimes as a break but mostly for people with attitudes who need extra paper to remember me by.

Want some cheese with that whine? I stop old cars and trucks all the time to check to see if the occupants are wearing their seatbelts... I also stop new trucks that have the belts that come out of the seat... if they're wearing it when I walk up to the window... I tell them that the belt wasn't visible from the rear and send them on their way. You didn't get a ticket for anything so you weren't accused of anything... a UTT is an Accusaroty Instrument.

Congratulations... you've passed some inconsiderate morons on the road. When I approach a car, If I have left my radar on (I try to remember to switch it over to the rear antenna to warn people approaching from the rear that I am up ahead so they slow down and pay attention) and there is an annoying sound eminating from it, the first thing I do before I even announce myself, is tell them to silence their silly toy.

Now now.. we all know what they say about assuming things right? You just proved the saying to be true. We don't use the hold feature as per our Rules and Regs and you're not getting out of your vehicle unless I'm conducting some type of criminal investigation and you're certainly going no where near my car unless you are in handcuffs for one reason or another.

Sounds like you have the problem and no matter where someone is pulled over, if an officer chooses to use passenger side approach, he's going to use passenger side approach.

Trooper provides public service announcement

Mr. Trooper, Who are you trying to convince with your "in-the-face" replies? Why would a Trooper spend so much time telling us how useless Radar Detectors are? I guess you're providing us with a much needed public service, so we don't waste our money. Kinda like Comsumer Reports does. Thank you for saving us from ourselves. For a minute there, I had thought you might have been truly threatened by these Detectors, or that you had this huge chip on your shoulder. But now it's clear that you are simply trying to save us money. I for one Thank you.

Yep... that's it.... I've said it before and I'll say it again... Save the money for mods. The money you spend on a V-1 and the ticket you recieve shortly after because you had too much confidence in the detector and not enough in my ability to do my job, you can buy CAI, exhaust and a tune. I have no chip on my shoulder and I'm fairly certain that I don't have some deep down fear of radar detectors. People whine, **** and moan about police officers doing our job so I am just providing the reply that is fit. You whine, **** and moan about us... I'll whine, **** and moan about you. The funny thing is... I hold the same personality on here as I do on the road... I'm all about business... I don't smile and act all cheery when I'm handing you your ticket. I'm not paid to be your friend and you're never gonna come to my house and drink a beer with me. Conversely, most motorists know they did wrong on the side of the road and know they deserve the ticket they recieved and even some they didn't recieve, but they come on here all high and mighty talking about they know my job better than me and they can beat any ticket/arrest thrown their way. Maybe there are some less than capable guys wearing uniforms out there but quit *****ing about it... you aren't going to change it by complaining about it on the internet.

Where was I whining, *****ing, and moaning about cops in my first post on this thread?

Answer: I wasn't, and you replied to my post in this thread.

It seems kinda funny how no one else agrees with you...

you aren't going to change it by complaining about it on the internet.
Take your own advice.

I just think that the government should invest money in teaching people how to drive instead of making money thru the speed traps and other tricks.
the speed limits actually stated on most american roads are made for cars of the last century (in germany the autobahn was up and running since ww2 and I would say with less accidents than here), I thank cops for doing their jobs, but sometimes, and this is just a though, they are told to generate revenue with nonsense exagerated tickets, I think the laws are too tight in some cases.
I remember a lady winning on a speeding ticket court, because she actually proved to the judge that the road she was stopped onto, was made and designed to a speed limit much higher than what the road sign said, and that the road was a revenue making facility, she proved that somehow and won.
and I know, most roads in the us, have stupid speed limits...
by all means, stop an M-efer driving 60mph inside a neighbourhood, but I think police officers should have and I know most do have common sense, if everyone is driving 65 on a 55 during "go to work" time, they should NEVER make a speed trap there, because that in my eyes is more dangerous than letting everyone go a few mph over the limit.

this is just an opinion, I could be wrong, I actually don't speed, but I got stop in a speed trap a few years ago together with other like 12 or 15 cars I was according to the person that stopped me 10mph over, I can't even imagine how much money was made that day alone...
that is a fact.
I don't blame policemen, because they do what they are told to by their boss like any other employee, and that climbs all the way to the government, but I think the view at the law of the highway need to be reviewed and remade to fit modern vehicles and people should be educated on how to drive them...

I respect your job mr tropper, I think you are a brave man for doing what you do, but why would you recommend someone to invest in engine mods on a street daily driven vehicle? if that mod should never be used because the speed limits we have in the us roads are made for cars that rode over 50 years ago.

now, we are all members of this forum, lets keep the peace
here.
Excuse my english, it is not my main language.
and on the side of the policemen in this country, I lived in what is commonly called 3rd world countries, and believe me you dont want to be stopped there, 1st, they ask you for money, then, they do really lie about what you did or didnt to ask for money, then, if you give them all you have, they let you go or sometimes the money is not enough and they take you to the station for no reason.
So lets be thankful for the police dept we have here that is straight and honest and they really put their lives in danger for us.
God speed.

I don't disagree with officer safety first. I want you guys to get to go home just the same as me. I had just never seen an officer by himself in broad daylight approach someone on the left. I was just telling of a situation that had happened to me because I found it was very strange. Every other person I have ever talked to found this odd as well. I made sure to pull WAY OFF THE ROAD so to ensure the officer's safety as well.

Again... good police work... he's not at your window so he might miss the alcohol on your breath or the smell of burnt marijuana on your clothes if he's talking to you though the passenger window.

Just an FYI - look up 1974-1978 Mustangs -- No REAR WINDOWS!!!! As a matter of fact -- Mustangs don't have rear passenger windows unless you have a fast back that has the pop out side windows.

Boo Hoo... you're the one that he decided to stop. Nothing says I have to stop the guy going 75 versus the guy going 73, it's called discretion and it's how traffic stops turn into much more than speeding tickets. You're driving a 25 year old car and you don't think that the speedo might be 1-2 mph off?

Can we say profiling? It doesn't matter if it is racial, color of car, color of hair or age. Well documented fact that if you look young, you increase your chances of being pulled over. Hubby and I were in our pickup truck one evening at a stop light. I was sitting in the middle next to him. 2 lanes at stoplight. Car in front of us jumps the gun and goes through the red light before it turned green. Cop was in the lane that was next to us. Light turns green, cop gets behind us and pulls us over. You should have seen the look on his face when he found out he had stopped a couple of middle-aged folks instead of young whipper snappers. It was priceless. Apparently unkown to us the license plate light was out. He told us about it and we went on our merry way. Had we been the young teens he originally thought he had who knows how bad the tickets would have been. Hubby had forgot to put on his seat belt and officer pats him on the shoulder and reminds him to put the seatbelt on. I would thing that it would have been more important and protect the public's safety for the officer to have gone after the trans am that jumped the red light rather than stop someone for a license plate light that you can't read the plate until your headlights are on it anyay.

As for my 25 year old car being off on the speedo - I maintain my car and have had the speedo checked and it is right on the money. In Illinois they put up traffic radar signs that show what speed you are traveling so you are aware and can adjust accordingly. I have checked my speedo several times and it is always right on the money. I've also checked my speedo with our other cars by a pacing method. So either your speedo gun is off or those signs are off to enable more ticket writing.

I write people for not using thier signal when pulling over all the time... sometimes as a break but mostly for people with attitudes who need extra paper to remember me by.

No attitude was given at all and I don't give attitude. I didn't argue. I merely told the officer that I believed I had it on. I really don't believe he saw it. I don't leave it on for 30 seconds. Is there a time limit that you are supposed to leave a turn signal on for? Just would like to know so I obey the law. I don't want stopped again.

I was not whining. I just thought it funny that he didn't think I had on my seatbelt - probably couldn't see it from the pPassenger side of the car - if he had approached to the driver's side like every other ISP I've seen, he would have seen the belt.

You should have thanked him for no moving violations.

I did thank him. I never said I didn't - why are you so In The Face with my stories?

Woo Hoo... your POS doesn't work. I've heard this BS excuse before and I'm sure I'll hear it again. Just because your (probably improperly mounted) Early Ticket Warning Device didn't work doesn't mean my didn't turn my radar on.

It is properly mounted and I use this not only to make sure I maintain the correct speed, but mine also has a compass on it as well as one of those Emergency Sign detectors that can alert you to a emergency traffic situation ahead - which in turn, will protect my life as well as yours.

Is it illegal to possess a detector in IL? I don't talk about people detectors all the time either... most of the time I do but sometimes I let it pass but everyone knows what happens when I see one.

Radar detectors are legal in Illinois.

We don't use the hold feature as per our Rules and Regs and you're not getting out of your vehicle unless I'm conducting some type of criminal investigation and you're certainly going no where near my car unless you are in handcuffs for one reason or another.

Just out of curiousity, if you had approached me and I had on a short skirt, would you have required me to crawl across and straddle that center console of mine, and got the shifter up my you-know-what, or would you have been nice and polite and come around to my driver's side? Remember those "old cars" don't have electronic windows or door locks. I was always under the impression that you are to remain in your car; don't move; hands on steering wheel. Wouldn't you have been nervous if I started moving across to the passenger side and reaching for the door, thinking I was getting in the glove box, or under the seat for my 457 magnum? Just checking.

Good for you... that is your legal right

Sounds like you have the problem and no matter where someone is pulled over, if an officer chooses to use passenger side approach, he's going to use passenger side approach.

You admit to speeding and complain about being stopped for it?

I've been pulled over for "speeding" three times. The first time I truly deserved the ticket. The other two were bogus. I dont' have a complaint for getting something I deserve - only for something I don't.

Umm... since when does any state law about posted speeds say that you are allowed to go 5 over? I hear this crap on the road all the time and I actually laugh at some people.

I'd much rather have everyone I stop be honest and respectful but that rarely happens... LIVE WITH IT.

I am honest and respectful and I appreciate it when the officer is so kind as to return the same attitude to me. That is what the "Andy Taylor" vs "Barney Fife" comment is about. Obviously it appears that you are more the "Barney Fife" type law enforcement officer. Most others on this forum that are in law enforcement are the "Andy Taylor" type. My Dad said you can win more bees with honey than vinegar. You might try that - it might make your job a little more rewarding for you and everyone you encounter.

Yep motorists are the same way and I'll see more motorists in one day than most people on this board will see police officers in their entire life.

Boy that felt good... I will now go into work with a little smile tonight and remind myself that silly people live in every state, not just NY. Glad to have been able to give you a good laugh. It really sounds like you need it. Sorry if you have had a bad life and that has turned you sour on everyone and everything. I actually feel sorry for you.

No one tells me how many tickets to write each month... no one tells me how many arrests to make each month. Maybe quotas exist somewhere in this country but have yet to work anywhere that they exist. The autobahn was built to move Germany's military cross country quickly... it was not built with Porsches and Ferrari's in mind.

Mod away and have fun but don't complain when you get caught. Mustangs are built for one purpose, to get from point A to point B quickly. I have no problem with how fast someone attains the maximum allowable speed or even going over the allowable speed a little. I have a problem with people making me out to be the badguy when they are punished for doing something they know is wrong. Just because I am fairly generous with my allowances with regard to speeding doesn't mean every officer is or should be. BTW, speed limits are set based on accident statistics, physics, and a whole lot of other things... they are not based on vehicles of any time frame.

I've had a very good life... always had everything I needed and lots of stuff I didn't need. Great parents, the best job in the world, an insanely big paycheck and benefits. I've only become bitter towards the public since I've been a cop and been lied to more often than not (like they think I'm actually stupid and will believe what they just told me).

Trooper your attitude makes other cops look bad. BTW if you use LIDAR my little "toy" ( Blinder Extreme m40 ) will snuff your gun at point blank.

the interstate system was also built to allow the military to move throughout the country quickly the only difference b/w the autobahn and the US interstate system is the autobahn was built thinker (higher quality roads) and have more turns because of the mountains. the US acttuly looked at the autobahn when designing the interstates. the reason they can have no speed limits is becasue they have stricter driving schools... also instead of inforcing speed limits the police inforce tailgating, and improper use of the left lane...

I have looked.... has anyone come up with legitimate documented proof of any new detectors being invis to the Spectre III?

Jam what you want... I write speeding tickets based on visual estimate and they stick. I don't use a laser because I don't like sitting for long periods of time and there aren't any good spots to set up a laser detail anywhere near my favorite fishing spots. You should be careful with things like laser jammers in NY... it's a stretch but you could possibly be arrested for OGA... it specificly states "interference with out physical force" in keeping a duly authorized public servant from preforming his official duties. It's PL 195.05 I think... don't have the PL here with at home but that number sounds right to me. I woudn't want to see you end up a criminal record and a misdemeanor arrest on your record because you didn't want to get a speeding ticket. That would suck having to tell a potential employee that Yes, you had been arrested in the past.

trooper, what are good spots for a cop to catch people speeding?
I am just curious, do you prefer highways, or streets, or avenues, how is that work?
I mean, we all have different ideas about law and laws in general, but we are still a forum of friends, give us some info to avoid a little bit getting in trouble.
other than just saying "don't speed"

Thanks!

I am just curious, do you prefer highways, or streets, or avenues, how is that work?
I mean, we all have different ideas about law and laws in general, but we are still a forum of friends, give us some info to avoid a little bit getting in trouble.
other than just saying "don't speed"

Thanks!
I have never said don't speed... I do say don't complain when you get caught doing something you know is wrong. Did I drive fast before I was on this job... you bet I did, but when I got stopped I expected a ticket and was very surprised that I didn't get one.

The places I do most of my enforcement are not because they are high traffic areas or where there are changes in speed limits (unless I'm working the construction detail then all bets are off... the limit says 40... I'll stop every speeder I can find down to 45... eventually people get the idea). I am big on what we call road kills... making arrests from traffic stops. I don't give a rats *** about tickets... tickets are a byproduct of me looking for people doing other things. I do most of my work in and around areas with less desireable people or areas that less desireables tend to travel... edges of the city (warrants/drugs/guns), back country roads (drunks and meth) river access points (people tending to their pot growing) etc.

Look to see where you see cops all the time. I have found that most people are oblivious when driving. I stop people all the time for not moving over when a fellow Trooper has a car stopped on the highway and more often then not, people say they don't remember seeing a Trooper on the side of the road with a traffic stop. If you notice there are always tire tracks in the median at a certain spot in the highway... don't speed though there.... it's obviously an aggressively worked area. When we are working federally funded highway safety initiatives, we usually hide one Trooper with a laser (in the woods, on top of an overpass, unmarked car etc) and have 5 or more chase cars.

I've seen in florida they will have one guy with a laser gun right before the turnpike pay booths and lots of chase cars or bikes on the other side looking for those who dont slow down to 35 going through the E-pass lanes. And Trooper, I work with the public all day long in the hospital ER, so I know what you mean about becomming irritated with BS lies and complaints. If you stop to get fast food before comming to the ER its NOT an emergency. If you complain about the wait then leave without treatment after you get a room its NOT an emergency. If you child has a fever and you havent given them any tylenol to bring it down then not only are you a BAD parent, its NOT an emergency. Ok sorry had to vent alittle.

trooper i got a question. like the past couple months, i have noticed that in westchester and long island, a lot of times my detector will alert KA and then alert its being jammed. this is mostly when the cars are state trooper cars. i also noticed this in NJ. i dont notice this in MA or like around the bronx. what is the point of jamming, i still know there is a cop around. is it some new kind of gun? i think i might could have to get the valentine 1 updated! i also heard that your car could be impounded in ny for having the laser jammer, i was going to buy the escort one but this is what the installer told me. is it tru?

So what I hear you saying here - reading carefully between the lines (and I assure you, I am) - is that you're more concerned that people "obey" you, than you are about actual public safety.

Otherwise, you would "protect and serve" by enlightening people as to why speeding is dangerous and why they should avoid doing so at all costs, rather than harping on this "ya gotta pay to play" theme.

The above quote makes it sound like you are a police officer for the wrong reasons. Why did you become a cop, incidentally?

Obey me? Where are you getting that? You expect to be treated with courtesy and respect correct? You don't like dealing with people who lack common sense and don't think when they say or do things right? I was brought up to respect authority figures without question. Todays society of kids that talk back to their parents and school administrators is broken and I'm doing my part to try to fix it a little bit.

I'm not the NHTSA... I'm not here for education... I'm employed for the purpose of arresting people doing things they know they shouldn't. Criminal Justice as a whole is "You play, you pay" system. You break in to my house and steal my nice new 60" Sony WEGA.... if you don't get shot, you spend some time in prison. You have a few drinks with your friends and then drive home, if I find you, you cough up lots of money and are walking for a little while.

I became a cop because the idea of a mindless desk job makes me shudder and although I am not affraid of much, I'm not going into a burning building. I did my time in the military and now I'm doing my part to try to make society a slightly better place... the same reason I think I'm going to get a JD when I retire and become a local judge.

I see nothing in that link to show any proof that the Spectre III missed any detecors.

I have never heard of radar detector jammers... they aren't division supplied and I don't see the purpose of them if they even existed. You are probably getting interference from some other electronic equipment. We have so much crap in our cars it isn't funny. GPS, MDT, multiple police radios, CB, scanner, Tracs computer/printer, Stalker, camera etc. I can impound your car for many reasons... I already said that you could possibly be arrested for using a laser jammer and I guess if you're arrested, I have to tow your car because I wouldn't want it getting hit or broken in to while you're posting bail.

Quick Reply: Radar detectors??
