Which Radar Detector to Buy
#3
you can get valentine one or several other brands, but several of them offer a remote kit. So the detector is in the grill etc, and just the visual led is in the car and can be put in just about anywhere. good luck

i just got an escort 8500 x50 to replace my escort 7500. every that has a valentine raves about it. all the tests seem to have the escort edging it out, and the escort is upgradable. i would go escort.

The best hidden detector.
Is the PassportSR series. I had the orginal the SR1. Used it in my 99 Stang for 5 years. (Just sold my car)
Now you can get the new SRX and SR7 models. THey both have the ability to shift incoming laser. (actually selling the SR1 and upgrading to the SRX for my 2006 Stang)
Here is Canada they aren't exactly legal. And Laser is the radar of choice for all highway cops. So the laser shifting is a definety advantage.
I had many detectors, including the Valentine. THe SR1 is way better. PLus it looks cool and is hidden.
Down side is, you need profesional install (goto car audio shop).
And the price is about $1500.
But well worth the money, especialy the way insurance rates are these days.
PASSPORT SRX Radar Detector INFO
Things to remeber about Radar detectors though. Instant on Radar and Laser, make Radar detectors almost useless. Because if it goes off and your in Pole position, your caught. (expect for the Laser shifting of course, this gives you a few seconds to slow down). Unless a cop comes up behind you, then you will definetly benefit.
Best way to beat radar, is to use your EYES, and think where it would be a could place for a cop to hide. (eg. underpasses, on top of bridges, around turns, and the BIGGIE over rolling hills)

get a v1 and mount it to the light dome on top in the middle using velcro. hard wire it from right at the light dome thru the trip, down the a-pillar, behind the dash, and to the power wire going into the stereo...it will turn on with the car

Hmm... I picked up a Solo 2 cordless. I have not had the opportunity to really use it so far. Anyone have any comments?

Be careful my dad is friends with a cop and in our town I dont know bout other's but in our town the cops have NEW systems that radars cannot pick up so in other words it dont work, there radar wont detect the cops anymore.

Looks like an easy install; got a couple of questions, was there a problem with spacing for the power wire to come out of the overhead box after it was closed or did you have to cut a notch in the console so the wire can come out? also, do you see any reason this won't work on a convertible? thank again

I have an Escort Solo 2 cordless and i love it. I have had the batteries in it for maybe 3 months and still 1/2 left. I have to admit that I do not use it much though. I think that they are supposed to last 40 hours.
It works exceptionally well

My thinking on the Solo 2 was that buying batteries was the price I would pay to remove the cord from my car... Not to mention buying a few extra AAs would not dent my pocket book... I mean, HOW many AAs do we all use a year??? I have a million remotes...

that's pathetic. I can't understand why you wouldn't get an 8500 and direct wire it
