Does anyone know if you can get Sirius radio through your factor Mustang radio w/out the sportster satellite receiver? I cant stand the big receivers and I have the sporster one but it would be so much nicer to have Satellite radio automatically through the original stereo.

 

My 05 vert rental car from Hertz had Sirus. So my answer is.............
Ugly looking setup they had tho stickin outta the dash abouve the radio

You can hook up any of the ugly FM transmitters.

It would be nice if Ford would actually integrate Sirius/XM into the head units already, like nearly every other auto manufacturer.

Not sure what they're waiting for.

Just a guess, but I suspect it is a price issue for the Mustang, which has never been listed as an upscale car.

It should still be an option, though.

The AUX button on the Shaker systems is supposedly available through pins 1-4 on connector J4 on the rear of the system. But i have yet to see anyone offer a wiring harness or connecting instructions for it.

I might be wrong, but I am given to understand that GM has a contract with XM / Sirius a lot like Onstar for exclusive factory rights... of course, this may be heresay...

I agree with you. I think this has more to do with Ford's perceived market positioning than reality as we the buyer perceive it!

 

Correct, but "exclusive" as in exclusive to GM (during the length of the contract, GM can't offer factory Sirius systems).

DaimlerChrysler has a contract with Sirius in the same way (they can't offer factory XM).

There are others who offer both XM and Sirius from the factory - you pick one when you order. The only down side there is that if you don't like the one it comes with, you can't easily switch.

Others have their head units set up to support either XM or Sirius, and the dealers install the rest of the equipment on site.

There are many choices out there from nearly all other manufacturers... supposedly Ford has a contract with Sirius, but I'm not sure why it's taking them forever to offer it as a factory option (or at the very least, as a dealer-installed option that still uses the factory head unit).

 

I have Sirius in my '05 and you cannot even see the headunit. It cost me my center console but it is completely hidden. I got the Sportster so it is removable. I can use it in the boom box they make for the Sportster. When they installed it they added a infrared repeater so there is a little eye next to my knee that I shoot the remote at and that repeats the remote commands inside the console compartment. Works really well. Not as well as if it was tunable thru the headunit of the factory radio but it is still pretty useable and I was not even willing to talk about any installation that left it out in the middle of the dash. The interior of the '05 Mustang is way too pretty to have anything like that sticking out of the middle of the dash.

If you can live without one of the cupholders at times, the Sirius Starmate will work for you. It is smaller and cheaper than the Sportster and will sit nicely on it's mount by just dropping it in the cupholder. Tight enough that it doesn't move around and you can see it pretty well also. When not wanted I just drop it in the console box and it's out of sight!

My wife has the Starmate in her car since we did not need two units that were removable to use elsewhere and that vehicle had a good place for it to be permanently installed. But I was not aware that the Starmate was removable. Ours is hardwired and stuck in place with adhesive since it does not have a "plug n play" cradle like the Sportster. If you can actually do this that would be great but from what I saw the Starmate was a permanent fixed install. Perhaps you can not stick the Starmate down and just unplug the wires and let them dangle in the cup holder and put the headunit in the console but given how small the Starmate is to begin with I would not see where that would be much of an improvement with the wires still dangling in the cupholder. The Starmate also has a more expensive installation since you also have to install an FM modulator that connects inline with your radio antenna. The Sportster has a wireless FM modulator built in so you do not have to have a separate FM modulator. They simply mount the cradle and run power and the antenna.

 

Do you have a problem with your Sportster overheating in the console?
