Ford Mustang has been in production for 40 years and I believe
has sold 8 million but 25% of that production was in the first
few years.

Does anyone know what the production estimates are for the
base model and GT model for the first year?

Anyone willing to bet what the actual production numbers will
be?

 

Ford is gearing up to sell 180,000 the first year.

 

that's a lot, but not insanely a lot. that's about half as many civics sold.

 

heh, try over 90,000 F-150s a month for volume

Well don't forget they are going to be pretty late on this production year. I wouldn't surprised if it is only 8-9 months before we see it called the '06 in the summer. 180,000 should be enough. Though, as long as I get mine nice and early I don't care how many they make

Mustang will sell, ive yet to find someone who doesnt like the car, 180,000 for a first year is a good goal, but i think they're break that by June, or sometime next summer, after the Vert's are released for production

and the F series is the beast of the Ford brand, don't they count for like 20% or something, and they're offering like 39 variants on the F series? they make those trucks right down the street from my house at the Norfolk plant, so ive seen them on the road for a year now, still a beautiful, beautiful thing

The F-150 was the best selling truck of 2003. If I was into trucks I might have gotten one.

 

That's 180,000 a calendar year, not 180,000 a model year. Doesn't matter when they switch to the '06 model, you are still not going to get more than 180,000 in 2005 or any following year unless they add production capacity to AAI.

I still agree with kevinb on this. I don't think 180,000 will be enough. I think there will be demand for 200k+ in 2005, especially once the verts start shipping. It will be interesting to watch.

 

I think it was a goodmove postponing the vert.
gives them a good 4 months and change...to pump out as many coupes V6/GT as they can in that time frame.
Remember, there are no machs or cobra's coming down the line like at DAP...its either going to be a V6 coupe or GT coupe coming down the line...

I also think that 180,000 is way too low a production #. I think there could be big shortages of Mustangs for a couple of years.

Look at it this way, in 2003 (calander year) sold sold 140,000 Mustangs in the US. I'd guess that another 12,000 were sold in Canada for a total of 152K in sales. Sales in 2002 were almost the same

That means that Ford is planning on ONLY a 18% increase in sales (the 180K production total is for US & Canada). Someone in Ford marketing is smoking crack. :scratch: I think that Ford could easily sell over 200,000 05 Stangs the first year. Ford sold almost 190,000 (US + Canada) Mustangs in calander year 2000, the 2nd year of the current style.

nah you wont. I'm gonna get one later into 2005 as well. There will be a bunch still when you go buy, i'm sure of that.

I really really hope not. :shock:

 

Possible. But not if you shop at the right dealership. Some will gouge, and some suckers will buy their and thus will get gouged. Even during the PT Cruiser craze there were still those dealerships selling at MSRP. You just had to do your homework to find them (Hint: Midwest is a good place to start).

That said, I have no idea how many cars will be available in 04. I don't think anyone does yet (?) Logically, you could just divide 180,000 by 4 or so, since they will only produce them for 3 months (1/4 year) of 2004. That's 45,000 cars. I figure that's a decent estimate, but probably a little high - it could be closer to 40,000 maybe. It will be interesting to see just how many of those sell between May 17 and Job 1. If most do in fact pre-sell, then yes I could see some potential problems for those who do not preorder. However, those problems will probably diminish as time moves on and production ramps up into 2005. Worst case, by mid 2005, supply will probably be able to meet demand. However, come November 2005, well, if things go as I and others here I predicting - there may be more shortage. Like I say it will be interesting to watch.

 

I wonder if there's a way to get numbers from Ford for the Pre-orders on May 17th.
