I spoke with three separate dealers friday since it was week 8 for me. I wasnt getting my order due to the production delays. Every one of them told me that ford isnt producing the GT as planned and the production is going to be limited on the GTs. Primarily V6 are being produced. In my conversations with the fleet managers at Each dealer, they told me I would be lucky to see the car I ordered by june! and I ordered 1/3/2005 (This is including my own dealership) that I ordered from. My dealerships fleet director even suggested I start looking at the dealerships around town for a car on the lot and told me he recommended I get a refund on my 500 down, no issues. That was a pretty strong message coming from the dealership I ordered from - A large dealership in Seattle. That led me to give up on the order and search for one and bought right off the truck this weekend.
I dont know if this information on production is reliable - but it was hard to ignore being given advice to search around from the dealership I was ordering from and the fleet director who knew I was putting nearly 40% as a down payment on the car!!
If your dealer is saying to get your deposit refunded from them, I'd make a bet that they don't have any more allotment for MY '05 for Mustang GTs. I've heard estimates that Ford production is cranking them out as fast as they can, but are "oversold"...particularly on GTs with IUP. But, they are in the process of trying to catch up (but, being oversold, they aren't going to get everyone the Mustang they wanted).

Some of us are getting them in the 6-8 week time frame (hope I'm one of those). Some are waiting months, though. I still think it's tied to the dealer's allotment and how they prioritized your order more than anything else.

My dealer told me today that he wasn't getting anymore 05s either. Then he corrected himself to say that he should get in one more...mine. We'll see.
