Last weekend I got bored, so I decided to tear the engine apart and polish the valve covers. IMO they look so much better than stock. Gives a little bling to the engine bay.
Total time: 3.5 hours
Complexity: 2 out of 5 Wrenches.
Tools: Dremal tool, bench wire wheel (FINE!) and buffer , 600 grit wet sandpaper and your basic wrenches, sockets etc.

They look awesome!!
FWIW, I have seen several others do the same thing, and the bling didn't last long for them. It oxidized in a few weeks. The only ones that seem to last, are those have been clearcoated.
Let us know what yours do.

Not too bad at all. They take a little finagling to get out once you get all the bolts out. It's easiest to remove the battery and air intake for the sake of wiggle room.
The critical part is the gasket… The rubber gasket sits in a grove on the bottom side of the valve cover lip.. Since you need to reinstall the cover with the gasket in place, I found it easiest to put a thin layer of grease between the cover and gasket. This makes the gasket stick to the cover/ stay in the groove nicely. Before you tighten the bolts, make sure the gasket is seated tightly in the groove or you'll have a leaks.
As with all projects (and thanks to digital photography), it's a good idea to take a before picture(s) prior to digging apart anything, that way upon reassembly if you forget where something goes, you have a cheat sheet/photo in which to reference.

That's for the heads ups. Didn't hear about that. So far so good. I did put a coat of wax on them prior to install. If they do oxidized, I'll take off and shoot them with a clear. No biggie.

Great job, man. Did you put any kind of protectant/wax on them after you were finished?

Looks really good I like it!
I powdercoated mine Hemi flat black for the durability of it.
Heres a tip...zoopseal those covers, will stop the oxidation dead in its tracks.. IMO
Zoopseal & Zaino wont do you wrong

Those look great!
I have been thinking about anodizing mine blue but I have 3 questions...
Are the valve covers Aluminum or Magnesium?
Can the plastic components be removed (without destroying them)?
Are there any steel components on the underside (like baffles, etc.)?
Thanks -
