Please VOTE. ALL S197 Mustang owners.

I'm trying to gauge the average # of problems in the S197. Please help out. I'm pretty close to ordering one now...just want to make sure i can handle any issues.

Hopefully if i do it will be a solid car *crosses fingers*

The only problem I had was what I thought was a dash squeak. Could never pinpoint it myself so I went by the dealer and had a tech ride with me. Turned out to be the shifter boot squeaking against itself in a fold. No more squeak!

I only had a shaker issue(3x), Squeaks and rattles and a front strut issue.Dealer fixed all to my satisfaction. Runs like it did the day I drove it home.

Husbands mustang had the transmission go bad at 3,000 miles. Dealer replaced, supplied rental, and it seems to be going whacky again at 10,000 miles.(pops out of second gear, doesn't wanna go into 3rd).

Had the gas tank issue and there is a squeak coming from the rear. I went to the dealership for them to listen and they or I can't figure out where it is coming from.

Had trouble with the Shaker headunit intermittently not wanting to play CDs. Fix: replaced with Eclipse aftermarket unit (had planned anyway). The occasional squeek and rattle in the cabin, however it is much much better than any previous Mustang I've owned (92, 2003, 2004).

Had the fuel tank fillup problem just a couple of times; learned that if I start out slow for the first dollar or so, then go to full speed fill, no more problem.

Other than that, the car has been very good.

I have a couple of squeeks, but I have the convertible. I also had the issue with the clutch packs in the rear. (moaning on low speed turns) I just added a bottle of XL3 friction modifier.....now she's perfect

Just the same simple squeeks (dash). No problems with the sound system.

A few simple rattles here. None of them stood out until I put the exhaust on, which I was prepared for.

I had a leaky trunk on a 07 Vert. The first time, the dealer could not find the leak. The second time, I had to park on a hill, and when I brought to the dealer, told him to put it on a ramp and then run water on it. Once they did that, they found the leak, and haven't had a problem since.

I'm in the same boat, about to pull the trigger on a new GT. But after years of owning Japanese cars (I also have an '87 LX 5.0), the misc. quality issues I've heard about (squeaks, rattles, radio, not to mention dealer service) causes me a bit of concern since I'll be driving it about 25,000 miles a year.

Some of you are VERY forgiving. Case in point:

Overall I was very happy with my 06 V6 that I had. Had the shaker go bad once, my Auto shifter got stuck once, and some interior rattles most of which were fixed. I can honestly say that I am more happy with my Mustang then my parents have been with their past 2 Toyota's. The only thing that could improve my Mustang would be better service departments, if Ford would get on these dealerships no one would mind taking their car in for service. Still I am also going to order another and to be honest no Japanese company can make a car I love more .

I voted no, however, I did experience a very insignificant problem. A squeak that resonated throughtout the cabin was ultimately located. It originated from the shifter boot. I lifted the bezal, pulled the boot, lubed the back of it... problem solved. That is it! I love this car

No problems with mine except for the low speed turn whine. Dealer fixed it and I've had no problems since.

Just an occasional squeak here and there... The convertible top rattles occasionally. I have never had the car in for service. Overall I am extremely happy with the car, it's been with me nearly two years and I am still in love!

I've owned 4 Japanese cars prior to getting ready to order a Stang GT. I'm amazed by how many domestic owners think reliability issues are something that "comes with the cars".

I've had guys tell me, "If you want reliability, get a honda civic." and "It's got a couple quirks, but that's a muscle car for you"

IMHO, the buyers are even more responsible than the automakers for what kind of product they get. I mean if people always brush off reliability issues and stay in the "well if you want V8 domestic power, for this bargain, you have to put up with its quality shortcomings" then the automakers will always keep bringing new colors and options instead of fixing things. It's a simple business model. Give the people what they ask for, and skimp on what they put up with for max profits.

Personally i'm at a point where i think Ford is beginning to put out well made cars so the mustang is acceptable. Plus there's just nothing in the japanese market with this much power/ sex appeal for the price. I will throw a hissy fit if it brings me problems though cause that sh*t's just unacceptable.

Good point but will never happen. It's like saying, "look, if everyone stopped wanting the GT500 and just pertended like we didn't want it then ADM's would dissapear."
