I know there have been several similar posts, but this one just really stuck me hard.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...2496515417&rd=1

"You are bidding for the amount over MSRP of $28750.00 "

I think someone read it wrong, or they have way more money than sense. The current bid is $10000. Somebody is going to pay nearly 39000 for a GT?

The guy at Power Ford in HB told me last night that they are getting $10k over MSRP in San Diego. All it takes is one person paying that kind of mark up and the rest are sure to follow.

I have to admit, when I first started obsessing over this car, I didnt think I had a snowballs chance of getting this car for less than $2k over MSRP. I even warned my husband that might be the case, just because of the hype over it. He told me we should be able to get someone to come down to MSRP, and we settled it like that. Once I found out I got XPlan, and that there were actually dealers accepting plans, my tune changed dramactically.

The people paying those prices either dont know any better, or dont care. There are plenty of both types of people out there for the dealerships to cash in on.

I sent him a message. I hope he gets it in time. I told him a negative feedback on this auction would be a smart move, and he wasn't bidding on the car itself. I gave him a link here.

03pathfinder.

I did the same thing for another auction a couple of weeks ago, and the guy cancelled his bid and thanked me for the link to this site.

I have an idea! I should buy 2 or 3 here in Utah for a grand under MSRP and then sell them for MSRP plus a small "finders fee". I can't believe people are really paying 5 to 10k over MSRP.

03pathfinder, there are 31 bids on this thing. He is not the only one. If he pulls out of the auction, the guy before him gets saddled with it.

And, I thought he was bidding on the car, for whatever amount over MSRP.

In most of GA it's 7% sales tax so someone's going to walk away paying at least $41,000 for that car. Ouch!

Imagine paying that for a PT cruiser a few years ago....

Naa...

Only the winner of the auction is required to purchase. The minute you are over bid they can't make you buy it. They can offer a second chance offer to the next highest bidder but they can't make them buy it.

Good job pathfinder. Why didn't I think of that.
(I'm assuming you sent the message to the bidder)

I sold some concert tics on ebay once and the high bidder backed out an hour before the auction ended. He stated "dishonest seller" as the reason for retracting his bid even though there was no basis for saying that. Well the next 2 bidders also backed out because of what the first guy said. So the auction ends leaving the first bidder as high bidder at like $75.00. The tics were worth about $450 but the high bidder by default was really upset that I cancelled the auction and wouldn't sell her the tickets. She said she was sorry that the other bidders did what they did but that I was obligated to sell them to her for almost nothing.

The point is, there is always a way to get out of an e-bay deal. Unfortunately this is true whether or not you "should" be able to get out of a deal. I have seen many people just plain change their mind after winning an auction and not follow through with the purchase and e-bay never does anything about it.

well first of all if the high bidder fails to pay...it does not automatically go to the next higher bidder. The seller can opt to send a second chance offering but there is no obligation.

That being said...i almost guarantee you that the winning bidder will not wind up buying the car. Selling cars on ebay have slightly different rules than selling other items.

If I had to wait a year to pay msrp or less that is what I would do. Not that I need it cause I get A and Z plan anyways, but I guess it's more on principle for me. I won't pay more than something is worth just to have it a little sooner. Imagine paying an extra 10 grand just to get a couple people stop you and show your car a little attention for a couple weeks.

I have a tip for anyone wanting to pay that much for a car to get a little attention. Buy a big can of orange hair paint and clown suit if you want to get noticed. You'll still get all the attention you need plus you'll save yourself about $9900.

What? Please clarify that for me. I have nearly 1,700 feedback there, and have bought and sold cars, etc......
