If I'm not mistaken aren't BFGoodrich & Uniroyal owned by Michelin? ...If that's true, I for one will INSTANTLY exchange that French crap for a true American brand.

It's high time we stand up and start supporting American brands....screw FRANCE and their crap products!
Well, screw France and their high-minded attitude, but BF Goodrich still makes some great tires. Credit where credit is due.

I'm all for buying American stuff IF it's the best, but IMO Goodyear has some catching up to do.

In related news... here's a test on the BF Goodrich Traction TA used on the V6:

Ford picked the right tire, they just got the size wrong. Fortunately, you can get a V-rated version of this tire in 235/60-R16, which should fit on the V6's 16x7" rims, assuming that there's enough clearance between the struts and the tire.

I think Goodyear makes some really good high performance tires. Actually, I thnk some of their stuff is actually top notch. However, it's the price for that top notch stuff. I want to put great tires on my car, but I don't want to havwe to sell a kidney to do it.

I too have thought about getting the 17s with Perelli's as a start, and use those for winter...and get an aftermarket (or fanblade...possibely Cobra) replacement rim/tires for the summer.
I haven't given it a lot of thought but that is actually a pretty good idea.

Use the 17's for winter and still have a nice looking rim, then get nice 18's for the summer (maybe the stock 18's). Hummm....

if they want to accomodate everyone they would make a 255/xxWR-17 tire in all-season cause I can see a lot of people that would love the wide tire with the benefit of all-season traction

I guess I could just buy the 17's and pay for new 255's
I'm not sure the 17" is supposed to be the performance tire on the GT. If you want width and looks, Ford is pretty sure people will go with the 18's. Plus, IMO 18's look more proportional (though I like a decent amount of rim).

I'm going to need an all season or snow tire right off the bat...that will suck

Off FF & MM feature on the 2005...

"The optional 18x9-inch GT rim won't be available until late 2005 or early 2006."

So are BFGs going to be available as soon as the first ones roll out, and what rim is going to be on the 18s if not the 5 spoke?

Linkage...as if we all don't have this bookmarked, printed, and memorized by now

I'm not so sure about that. Several of us have talked to reps at different autoshows who've assured us that the 18's will be there. Also, on the Canadian info pamplet, only the 18's are shown.
