Here are some shots from the San Diego Car Show. Not a lot, Ford didnt put in a good showing here, but they did have the Ford 49 Concept which is really cool.

That 49 looks pretty sweet. The seats and old body are very old school styling. Nicely done!

are they gonna do a production run of the 49? I like it, and they did a fine job with the retro styling, but I wouldn't have gone quite as old school.... I'd have made it ever so slightly more of a modern look... I can see that having a hard time selling if they do produce it. I'm thinkin' that'd be sweet chopped and dropped, shave the handles and paint it creame with purple flames.... it doesn't say anything else to me. Know what I mean?

Thanks for the pics! I like the '49 styling too. I think the Fusion is loosely based upon the '49.

Looking at the 49 , I guarantee you will see tons of those "ghettofied" . The gangsta rappers will have that thing lowered with hydraulics all over their music videos .. heh

The 49 does look great but I think that they killed any idea of actually building it. Very little was found last time I did an internet search. Anyone know more?

The 49 show car is like 4 years old now. Great design, and I wish they had gone that route with the 500. It's never gonna happen though.

I would personally love to see it happen and for very little of it to be modernized, I really like the old school look.

The 2006 Fusion's design is based on the Ford 427 ( see below. ) But the car is actually a Mazda6 underneath the Ford body.

Ford should of built the 49 instead of the boring line up they now offer (Mustang excluded). Maybe then they would of been running with the 300C which as a 2005 model already has 143,500 units sold.

The 300c killer will appear around 07/08. 500 was never intended to go against it. The 35 should give it high 6 second -60 times next year though, and it is getting a restyle no later then 07. I have sold 5 500's in a row to people that looked at the 300 first. Fusion may get some svt love too. can you say 320hp D35 with AWD.......

The 49 would not be that hard to make, may see it as a tbird replacement. Mercury should get that car, and base it on the s197 platform. It will also be interesting to see what the ls2 and hemi-killing Hurricane does to the Ford product line
