I am working on getting my money together to pay for my car when it gets here.
I got my Buyers order form and it had "Permavin" on it. This is where they etch
the VIN number on all the windows. Cost $297.77. I asked them, about this and
they said, "It comes from factory that way now. We used to do it here, but not
any more."

Thing is I'm wondering is does everyone here have this on there Mustang?

I know exactly what it is, and they do NOT come from the factory that way. The complete VIN number is etched into every piece of glass. They do this for theft reasons. Most stolen cars get stripped. It's a lot of extra work to take a door apart and remove the glass, plus then they have to pay for a new glass. Also, it can't be removed without an obvious mark, so it's much less tempting for thieves. But agian, it is NOT even a factory OPTION, much less a new method of manufacture.

Edit: It's a dealer add-on.

This is a high margin dealer add-on...get them to remove it before you sign if you don't want it. If they want to etch the windows anyway and you don't pay - you are getting that theft deterrent for free!

Thanks alot for the info. Now, I can go to the dealership and make sure they don't do this before the car gets there. Looks kind of tacky to have it etched there. Besides if someone steals my car, I'm sure they would not mind selling everything but the windows.
